While I completely agree that the quad-exhaust is completely unequivocally maddeningly stupid. (tips should NEVER EVER outnumber cylinders, EVER!)
I suppose there is some small chance and a slight lowering and this body kit could marginally improve the cod. I'm definitely not saying that I think it WILL, but I'm open to the possibility.
That being said, if I owned a Prius, and someone produced a body kid that DID (FOR SURE) produce some quantifiable aerodynamic benefit, AND was somewhat less garish than either of the ones pictured above, I could see myself considering it...
I actually don't mind the rear lip/diffuser in #3 and #7 (provided the cf was color-matched to the rest of the body), but the front lip and side skirts would have to be toned down considerably...
And COLOR-MATCHED TO THE BODY!
To me at least, seeing exposed cf of a prius is like seeing my mom in a stripper outfit...
This has me all confused. I thought the reason why the Prius sold so well is because it looked different. It looked like a futuristic car with an advanced powertrain. Buyers of hybrids want to make sure you know they are driving a hybrid. They want to throw their ecoism in your face (and yes, to these people it is a religion). They live for people looking at their car in traffic and thinking that somehow they are better than you.
Now, TK has a kit that, essentially, makes the Prius look like a riced out Civic. A car that says, "look at me", but in much different ways.
So, what is it? Is it a smugmobile or douchemobile? If I see one in traffic, should I feel the pity I do for the ricer kid or the vitriol I have for the greenista?
The prius may be the bane of jalopness, but it's meant to be a sensible car. (though I think diesels are far more sensible) It is not meant to be a gaudy flashy rice burner by no stretch of the imagination. But that's what this kit does for it. And don't get me wrong, I don't hate the car, I just don't think the people driving really did their research, or they just got caught up in the hype.
Also, I guess I can understand the desire to want to make your car look better, (you know I'm tryin') but there are far better ways to go about it, like anything but adding quad exhaust pipes or extra intakes for a hybrid. It's funny when I drive on the highway I'll always see prii in the left lane, most of the time they are far too slow with normal traffic, but once in a while when the planets align, I get a crazy one who drives at 90+, as if their smug chip has overloaded. Perhaps they had forgotten they bought a prius, or are simply trying to deny the fact that they have bought one, so if they drive fast they can't possibly be in one. I think this kit is for them.
Modifying a Prius is very much like making love to a beautiful
woman. Clean all the relevant surfaces, spread her out on the table, cover her with paste, and stick her up. Then you clean your brush, stick on a Tommy Kaira sticker, stand back and admire your handiwork.
