2010 Toyota Prius Touch Tracer Display Makes Buttons Intuitive |

A centrally mounted display takes longer to fixate on, and while it is nice that they made the buttons so that you don't have to look at them, if it takes longer to look at and then return your eyes to the road.
It would be nice that users won't have to look at the buttons while on the road if it wasn't for the fact that most people are already familiar with the locations of their controls, from having used them on a daily basis since they purchased the car. Think about it, when was the last time that you had to look to find the volume button on your radio?
When it comes to designing a safe display, the major concern should be limiting the amount of visual stimuli that is eliminated due to saccadic suppression. Putting the display in the center increases it.
It's another stupid gimmick that doesn't work in the real world, much like the Prius itself.

Yeah, probably not. But might's pretty strong.
