2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe: The Epic Reveal, Live!

Wow. Ok, so we were pretty excited about the new 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe, but we had no idea just how awesome the reveal would be. None of that crap about pulling a sheet off a semi-functional prototype. No, these Hoondais were blatantly fully functional. That's thanks to either a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 making 223 HP, or a 3.8-liter V6 that pumps out 310 HP. Hyundai is promising that this will be the cheapest 300+ HP coupe in the world. Full press release after the jump.

2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe: A Mustang-Killer Revealed

So what's the one complaint most often levied against the Ford Mustang? How about the lack of Independent Rear Suspension? Guess what? The 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe has it. Here's the rest of the details — 212 HP 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a range-topping all-aluminum 306 HP DOHC 3.8-liter V6 engine. It'll be available starting in the spring of 2009. We'll have many more details shortly and our full gallery of the event in a moment — but yes, it's just been revealed.

New Hyundai Genesis Coupe Caught at Marketing Meetup

So that's how they do it. Apparently, someone looking in on a Hyundai marketing presentation snapped some shots of the new, Tiburon-replacing Genesis Coupe Concept ahead of its debut at the Los Angeles show later this month. As we were made aware at the SEMA show last week, the prototype is built on the company's new rear-drive platform that will host the Genesis sedan. It'll get a 300-horsepower version of the company's 3.8-liter V6, which likely reflects the range topper among production models, which will be introduced at the New York auto show in 2008. As shown in these images, posted on New Tiburon Forums, the company's marketing minions are comparing it to Ford's Mustang, Honda's Civic Coupe and Mitsubishi's Eclipse. Now all it needs is that 350+hp V8 promised for the sedan and Hyundai's in the car business. [New Tiburon Forums via Motor Authority]

Are You The New Hyundai Tiburon?

The frog-like folks over at Caradisiac think they've got a sketch of the new Hyundai Tiburon. We're still not sure if this is an official shot liberated from Hyundai — so we're going to let you take a look at it and then take a look at the spy shots we've already shown, then let us know what you think. Hyundai confirms a RWD Tiburon replacement. Duh! We mean, why the heck would they have that test vehicle out like, everywhere? [Automotive News via Autoblog]

Hyundai Rear-Wheel Drive Coupe Spotted In Korea

New shots of the Hyundai RWD coupe we've already shown you have been shot tooling about somewhere 'round the Korean peninsula (we're assuming it's the South side). As we've told you before, Hyundai's been gearing up their new multi-use rear-wheel drive BH platform for combat, and the platform's going to be putting that "multi-use" term to good use. The Korean automaker's looking at bringing to market all sorts of stuff built atop it including a couple of luxe sedans, a crossover and yes, even a RWD coupe. So there ya go — this one's got a little less cladding on it. OK, maybe it's the same amount of cladding — maybe these ones are just a higher resolution. [via NewTiburon]

Spy Photos: Hyundai RWD Coupe Spotted...Somewhere

Hyundai's been gearing up their new multi-use rear-wheel drive BH platform for combat, and the platform's going to be putting that "multi-use" term to good use. The Korean automaker's looking at bringing to market all sorts of stuff built atop it including a couple of luxe sedans, a coupe and we're even hearing something about a truck (more on that rumor later today). Good thing they're teaching the salespeople how to sell these back-end bad boys. Well, it looks like someone caught the Tiburon-esque coupe in testing overseas and snapped some pictures of it in all of its potentially V8 Tau-powered hotness. Take a gander at it and let us know what you think in the comments below. More »

More Multiple-Motor Madness: Twin-Engine Tiburon

Ah, twin-engined cars. The Hairy Olds is the grandaddy of them all, but since then we've seen dual engine/transaxle combos stuffed in a fair number of vehicles by lunatic gearheads. CRX, Citation, Chrysler K-car... and, of course, a '98 Hyundai Tiburon. This one's been around for a while (the folks at Sport Compact Car included it in an "Ultimate Street Car Challenge" shootout a few years back), but we're putting it up here for those who may not have heard of it. Sure, the salesman who drives a Hyundai to work wins the set of steak knives, but not when that Hyundai packs a 300-horse engine at each end and runs high 10s. More »

LA Auto Show: We Turned Our Shark Into Art: BILLY's Hyundai Tiburon

We widdle back and forth between dabbling in the art world and loathing it. But, as a sculptor we know who built an outrageous hot rod as a respite from the fine arts once lamented, "I thought the hot rod world would be full of less bullshit than the art world. Turns out I was wrong." Anyway, the marketeers at Hyundai handed over a Tiburon to an NYC artist who simply goes by the name of BILLY (apparently another unfortunate case of using all caps in a case which doesn't bear the import of ALUMINUM UND SHTEEL, MEIN LIEBESM DCHEN!), who spun the Korean sport coupe into some sort of folk-art mashup of Peter Max, Aztec and Egyptian styles. Aztlan! Giza! Seoul! Angelheaded hipsters who bathe in pretense! Arise! More »

Yes, It's the New Hyundai Tiburon

Up until about a millisecond ago, we were just about the only car-related Web site not running this leaked shot of Hyundai's next Tiburon coupe. Now we're not. Hello there, Joneses. More »

Spy Photos: More on the New Hyundai Tiburon

More shots of the slightly redesigned Hyundai Tiburon hit the blogospaz yesterday, reportedly by way of a commercial photo shoot breached by some digicam jockey. Somehow, it seems the big H didn't quite go far enough with the facelift. It's still got that ungainly profile, which can only be partially corrected in the aftermarket. We're still hoping for that twin-turbo 280 hp version. More »

In Search of The Shark: Help a Car Historian Find El Tiburon

Henry Covington's "El Tiburon" (the shark) was one of the great tragedies among home-brewed, almost-built car models. Covington designed and built nine copies of the futuristic sports car in 1958 out of his house in St. Petersburg Florida. In truth, the shark was just a space-agey fiberglass body — decked out with a greenhouse roof that tilted upward for access to the interior — slapped over a Renault chassis. The last remaining body was sold to an optometrist, who dropped it onto Porsche underpinnings (it's been restored). Now, a Tampa car historian is looking for the remaining cars that may still be in circulation, barned, or in any variation thereof. If you know the whereabouts of an El Tiburon, don't approach it alone (it is a shark, don't forget); e-mail Geoffrey Hacker at geoffrey@grhacker.com. More »

Lloyd's Revenge: New Hyundai Tiburon Makes China Debut

Ari, to Lloyd: I drove to work in an $80,000 Mercedes, I'm driving home in a prop car from the "Fast and the Furious".
After years of vituperations from Ari Gold on HBO's "Entourage," perpetual assistant and Johnny Drama's new agent, Lloyd may just have the last laugh. Well, maybe not last, and not so much a laugh as a muted chuckle into a cocktail napkin (with the emphasis on cock). Still, the new 2007 Hyundai Tiburon, Lloyd's ride, debuted at the Guangzhou Motor Show in China. It's gotten some minor visual tweaks, notching up its out-of-the-box sexiness just a touch. Engines will remain a base DOHC, 16-valve 2.0-liter four with variable valve timing and five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission with Shiftronic semi-automatic, or the 2.7-liter V6, available with a six-speed manual. Expect it iin the US as a 2008 update. More »

Hyundai Working on a Hot Rod?

Aah, little Hyundai is growing up. It seems like only yesterday we were pounding our fist on the steering wheel of our '88 Excel (four-speed), begging it to hit highway speed before that oncoming Buick LeSabre cleaved us in twain. Now, according to the Detroit Free Press the company is planning a halo car that would paint the brand with a racing stripe. The sports model would be priced under $25,000 and would likely be a front driver based on the Tiburon, though the company isn't ruling out a more powerful rear-drive model. A decision will be likely within six months, not ironically the same time horizon as the Excel's zero-to-60 sprint. More »
