A forum member over at GM Inside News spotted these camouflaged (why?) cars around Melbourne and snapped one off before the driver made a speedy getaway. The grille on the bottom car looks Holden-like to us, but maybe the top one was the Pontiac, or maybe our eyes need to be tested. Is it wrong to want to liquefy those tires as part of the break-in procedure? [GMInsideNews]

<![CDATA[ New York Times Goes Negative On Jalopnik El Camino Campaign ]]> The New York Times's Lawrence "Lars" Ulrich took a swing at pithy commentary on the 2010 Pontiac G8 "El Camino" sport truck today, deciding to heap the bed full of liver-lilied liberalism and haterade. To wit:

"Who exactly was clamoring for a two-seat, gas-guzzling pickup with the cheapest-looking interior this side of a Motel 6?"
Who? Well, us for one. But we wouldn't expect Ulrich to understand anything about a vehicle...

...he misnames as the "Pontiac Sport Truck," forgetting those strong G8 roots. But he makes up for it with hackery like calling our beloved El Camino the "Like Hell Camino," the "Pontiac Wallaby" and the "Haulacious." Isn't that precious? It's like he studied at the school of me, but without the love of real cars. [New York Times]

<![CDATA[ 2001 Holden VU S Completely Roo Proof, Possibly Dekotora Inspired ]]> If you want a peek into the end-of-life future of the Pontiac G8 Utes to come, here's a good idea what kids in the heartland will be doing with the almost El Camino after it does the 1 lap of depreciation. This example for sale in Oz is going for approximately $21,954 USD, but it's still redneck-tastic. We'd be lying if we said in our younger days, half our friends didn't have aftermarket bumpers like this on their trucks, so we know the motivation for installing guards like this - primarily deer, or in this case kangaroos.

Since Roo's are pests in Australia like deer and antelope here, and not of the cuddly belly-pocket toting icons they are in the US, making sure your Holden wins in a fight is more important than looks. Of course, depending on your perspective it does look pretty badass. We've got a shiny new nickel that says this ride has never done a donut in its life. [DigiAds]

<![CDATA[ 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP Coming Soon? High Performance Pontiac Magazine Gives Us Their Wish List ]]> Pontiac-G8-GXP.jpgThe Pontiac G8 GT commercial we showed you very early this morning was good at tightening the pants of any auto lover with a joy for recreating classic 80's Midway games. But there's still been some criticism of the arrow-headed brand over their neglect of the stick as well as some who believe the General's "performance brand" may not be driving excitement as much as they'd wish it to be. Well, the rumor on the street — and by street we mean the web pages of High Performance Pontiac magazine — is that Pontiac will be looking to bring to market a Pontiac G8 GXP for the 2009 model year. They're speculating
"There is plenty of evidence out there hinting to a future G8 GXP, one with a more powerful V8 and maybe a six-speed manual."
In addition, they've got a list of what they'd like to see in an eventual GXP, which we've provided after the jump:

What I would like to see:

*At least LS3 power. That means 430hp or more.
*A available six-speed manual. Please leave out the knife in the peanut butter jar shifter feel.
*Supportive bucket seats with GXP stitched in the head rests.
*No callout badges to the power level, just the engine size.
*Reduce the weight to about 3750lbs, or similar to the V6 model.
*Large brakes. I am a brake nut, so anything with outstanding brakes leaves me gawking.
*Larger wheels, perhaps a 19x9 wheel to leave a larger footprint and house the monstrous rotors.

Hmm, it reads like it came straight from a press release, doesn't it? Guess we'll have to see what, if anything, ends up coming out in the near future, eh? If we remember correctly, didn't the General bring the G6 GXP to New York a couple of years ago? [via High Performance Pontiac]

<![CDATA[ First Pontiac G8 Wagon Photo? ]]> The image associated with this post is best viewed using a browser.Ben caught it before any of us. His eagle eyes caught something all of us should have immediately noticed if we hadn't been so Camaro crazy. Unless our eyes are playing tricks on us — there's a camouflaged wagon hanging off the back of that Camaro-carrying trailer truck from the 2009 Chevrolet Camaro spy photos we just posted. We'd been told we should expect a Pontiac G8-branded wagon and truck-car ute for the Pontiac brand and now we're wondering — is this the first picture of the Pontiac G8 wagon we've been told we should be expecting? In other words, is this the harbinger of the Pontiac G8-amino? What say you?
