    The wife had a hemi commander that went way deep south ( Adam Sandler snicker ) that was a blast to drive.

    Prius owners do not get hemi's and vice versa.

    I drive a STI and wifey runs a V10 Excursion. If we could meet in the middle, life would be good.

    Americans do not love gasoline, we love are cars !!!

    Give me a H-1 getting 30 mpg and I do not care what fuels it.

    If my super spark camaro , with 10 kv , turns 12.1 quarters and reverts to hydrogen to charge,,,, I do not care.

    @Jstasmanian Debil -- Cuban Gynecologist: Actually applying "Hybridization" to low mileage vehicles makes more sense.

    There is a greater benefit to $ and eco-wise

    A 10mpg increase to a 10mpg truck is > then a 10mpg increase in a 35mpg Honda civic.


    Now whether it sells or not is another story...

    @xeensd: That's not how it works, though. Hybridising something leads to more of a percentage increase in economy, so whereas a 40 mpg Fit or something hybridised for a 20% economy gain will make 48 mpg, a 15 mpg Ram with 20% more economy still just makes 18 mpg.

    In a slightly odd way, I would say that it does make sense. Barring commercial users, most people that buy trucks are casual users who rarely, if ever tow anything, let alone put more than groceries or some plywood in the bed. Few of them will ever notice the fact that the hybrid has less towing or payload capacity. They will, however, notice the extra mileage when it comes time to adding up their gas expenses.


    And, despite the market for pickups have fallen from its high point, there are still a lot of people buying trucks. So why not sell a version of the truck that will not only be slightly better tailored to the casual user (regardless of your opinions of such people) that will simultaneously make some headway in meeting those obnoxious CAFE standards. If people are buying trucks, then you may as well make the best truck you can.

    @pauljones: But what kind of red-blooded American would want HYBRID plastered all over their pick-up truck? And why would they buy a large truck in the first place if they knew they were getting diminished tow capacity for the sake of mileage? I don't know, none of this economic/marketing crap ever makes sense to me...

    Badges are easily removed, and the point I was trying to make is that most people that buy light-duty trucks these days don't do any real towing/hauling. Most 1/2 ton pickups can tow 10,000 pounds. Can you think of anything that that you have ever seen a light-duty 1/2 ton towing that weighed that much?


    5000 pounds is more than enough for most people.

    @pauljones: Yeah, I know what you were trying to say, it's just I think many of those who buy trucks in this country do it for the "what-ifs" in life, just as those who buy SUVs in case they have to carry more than their 4-count family, or get AWD just in case it snows sometime. But really, I haven't met enough of them to actually know, so I might be belittleing the intelligence of about half of America wrongfully...

    @Baron Schm Von Shamwoüzen memes ur memes.: This is based on the exact hybrid drive-trian that GM built for it's trucks and SUVs. It was co-developed with Chrysler and BMW so they could use it.
