First they denied us the RS6 Avant, then they quit the ALMS (which might lead to Acura pulling out after this year), and now they deny us the A5 Sportback.
It seems like Audi's getting a little model bloat these days. I always like that they kept it simple. They're playing Keeping up with the Jones's with the A3,4,5,6,7,8, and Q5,7. Now, they're making a variant 4 door coupe model for the A5. I thought that's what the A6 was for? Anyway, I hope Audi doesn't go the way of BMW by making every possible niche market vehicle.
One asscheek all by itself does not a sexy picture make. Up close like this, it's more a clinical study of an individual feature, e.g. we'll suck a little fat out of here and reinject it under the fenders over there.
Plenty of blackheads, its jacked up a good 2' BUT...
Wait for it...
IT RUNS ON STREET TIRES.
Worst part.. They give us the Q7 (Cayenne), the Q5 (always the larger vehicle.. cause the smaller one makes too much sense.) Inaddition to the Tiguan (prob a Q3).
Actually, no, not really, that was just a random dream of mine.
But I thought maybe they should offer more diesels in the USA, and as the price of oil climbs and climbs, diesel might become more attractive (except in California, that is).
@Ambiguously Unfunny Serial Killer: Even sadder, I was reading that they might not even sell the new S4 Avant in North America when the S4 gets released in the fall.
Oh damn now I just saw the bullet that says the A5/S5 convertible replaces the A4/S4 convertible. I still think this is really confusing, why the hell would they call it the A5/S5 if the regular coupe A5/S5 are TOTALLY different? FOOLS.
I'll stick with the hardtop... BUT GIVE US THE DAMN DIESEL ALREADY, in something, i don't care at this point... just pop the fuckin diesel cherry on any of your beautiful current models! Give us hope!
The S5 coupe, upcoming S4 Avant, and the G8 GXP are close to parity on the DoctorNine list of what to purchase this year. I am having a hard time deciding. I want to give GM the chance to win my business. But they keep trying to avoid it.
The Audis will have a much better resale value, and the S4 Avant wins the practicality argument, but the G8 GXP wins the value argument, and it has a lovely, burbling, small-black V8. My choice would be clear, but I look forward to hearing what you eventually choose.
I love me some rag tops. And these are pretty. I love seeing A5/S5s on the road. They make me happy. I thought Walter de'Silva was losing it when he said it was the most beautiful car he penned, but he's right. It's a slow burner.
I prefer ragtops, as well. A convertible is an image car, and if you are going to do a convertible, then dammit, do it right and make it look good. The only decent looking hardtop convertible I have seen is the new Ferrari California.
@pauljones: You make me laugh... derisively with that last sentence. You probably meant that the only decent hardtop convertible roof was on the Ferrari California. In my opinion, the car was even more revolting in real life.
Eh, I liked it in person. Different tastes, I guess. The one thing that we do seem to agree upon, however, is that a good and proper softtop convertible beats a hardtop convertible any day.
Is this to replace the A4 convertible, or is Audi just going to keep releasing models to have a perfect car in their lineup for every single spoiled rich brat out there. Don't get me wrong, I like their product, I am just questioning the need for such a huge line of cars. How about an A1 instead.
@pauljones: I am assuming that the A3 conertible is a non US model. So does this mean that the the A5 replaces the A4 and all coupe/conv/coupe like cars will be odd numbers, vs proper 4 door sedans will be even numbers?
It is definitely a non-US model, sadly for us. Otherwise, my girlfriend would look great in a white one, and she even has family who would buy it for her.
As far as the Audi nomenclature goes, I think that that is to be the case. Further evidence to support that would be the upcoming A7, which they classify as a coupe, despite it being a four-door. But, then, they said the same for BMW not too long ago, and that went nowhere.
@pauljones: The only ones i've seen on the road have been white & driven by leatherfaced middle aged divorced women. The S3 is more appealing, then hatchbacks that have been turned into convertibles always look like a hack job.
All the more reason to send them across the Pond, where they will promptly become a favorite for spoiled high school cheerleaders. But, hey, at least they'll look good in them.
It'll be interesting to see if the BMW 1-series convertible carves out a respectable niche over here in the States. If it does, then perhaps Audi will change its mind and import the cabriolet.
@layabout: The A3/S3 regtop is the cute girlfriend car. Not my cup of tea but I am neither a girl or that cute. I can live without it coming to the US. The A5/S5 convertible is the middle age golfer or a pretty/rich college boy car. Once again, I have no desire to wear plaid pants/pink polos, and although I did graduate with a degree in higher education, this still does not fit me. I do have to admit that it looks nice, but I will never own one. Still going to be making payments on my R32 for a while.

I know it is kind of a chick car, but I like their A3 convertible as well:
I think that it is one of the nicest-looking small convertibles I have ever seen. What can I say, we all have a guilty pleasure or two.

Why are images not working properly today?
Trying this again:
Hmm. Perhaps we are having hamster issues of some sort.
Screw it, you look at the picture for yourselves. The link is below.

Are they available in AWD or FWD only?
Thanks for posting the pic, by the way.
