    Just love that triple chin up front on this vehicle. With a helping of jowls. The front end looks as if it just belched. The bulging, sagging fender surrounds look like curtains of flesh and skin hanging off a Biggest Loser contestant on the first day. This from a mileage leading model? Terrain? Maybe Terrine.

    Who designs these cars now?? Do they know that putting a giant wall on the front of the vehicle makes it harder to move through the air? 70% or so of fuel is for just moving the car through the air, are we trying to save fuel???

    One of the ugliest vehicles without plastic cladding I have ever seen. I would love to see a repair quote for replacement of the front bumper.

    Good engineering, though. 32 mpg is nothing to sneeze at for a crossover this bulky, and it will help GM's EPA ratings tremendously.

    this is why GM still doesn't get it. Equinox, SRX,Terrain, Denali, Saab 9-4X, Vue - 5.25 different versions of the same vehicle, all fighting for market share against each other, all unable to get their fair share of an ever-shrinking marketing budget.

    they are all probably great vehicles, but finding buyers is an uphill battle with those odds. they need _maybe_ three, tho two would be enough. 5+ different variants is just silly.

    @Ben Wojdyla: You're right on paper, but the average person has some image of a difference between a Rav4 and a Lexus. Ask them about a Terrain and an Equinox and you'll get a blank stare.

    @Ben Wojdyla:
    Toyota has 3 brands, not 7. or 4. and in general have only had overlap between 2 of them in a given segment. _had_ being the operative word, as they do seem to have overreached a bit of late. their new CEO has said as much about their overexpansion.

    even with only 4 brands now, GM still competes against itself in every segment save a few. GM's volume/market share has not been able to support the money they've spent to develop their (very good) current line-up, plus getting the vehicles onto the public's buying radar is hard to do when you have so many to promote. I think the GM culture was too convinced that things would somehow, someway, someday work out and that they would be able to gain back what they'd lost. that didn't work, leaving the big (small) question as how small they will end up before they bottom out.

    @dwp: Every time I see an the TV commercial for chevy.ebay.com, it's ALWAYS followed a few ads later by the one for gmc.ebay.com. Twice the cost for no reason whatsoever, all they're doing is competing with each other to be "That ebay site for american cars" you vaguely remember. Since there's a gm.ebay.com for the whole corporation it's simply two divisions doing their own thing and wasting corporate money.

    Stop outsourcing your exterior design work to Korea!

    I was at the unveiling of the Terrain at the NYIAS. Susan Docherty, who heads up the division for the GMC, Buick, and deceased Pontiac brands was describing a wondrous vehicle, that competes head to head with the leading imports, getting better fuel mileage, and having a world class interior.

    My thoughts hinged upon the fact that I didn't think GM was unveiling anything approaching class leading in the small SUV Category. Well after about a 10 minute sales speech (With Susan dressed in an appropriately feminine pink cardigan sweater with small bows as trim) This thing came out from behind the curtain.

    What was most telling of this particular introduction was how it was covered by the New York Times. The posted a video that went on to describe the fact that not one reporter was anywhere around the Terrain 10 minutes after the introduction. This was the only major introduction GM was planning foe the entire show. I was uninterested in seeing a rebodied Equinox, and it looked like I wasn't alone.

    Don't get me wrong, I like Susan ever since I saw how she handled an interview with Fox News morning host Gretchen Carlson. However, I'm not in love with the Terrain.

    @Greasy Breakfast: There's a difference between crap plastic and good plastic. A big difference. If you want to make the claim that all plastic is bad plastic I suspect the folks at BMW, Mercedes, and Audi, Buick, Cadillac, Lincoln, Infiniti, Lexus, and VW have some things to show you.
