I'm surprised to see the Charger out-google the Challenger, but I suppose fanboys are googling both, and buyers are googling the Charger at a 2:1 ratio over the Challenger.

@GreenN_Gold: Well, we don't know if the Charger really out-googled the Challenger. All we know is that the Charger was a more popular search on Yahoo! Autos.

@Shadowman615: Yeah, you know, I read that, yet my mind automatically equates search to google. Let's just assume then. "Out-Yahoo!Auto'd" just doesn't have the same ring to it anyway.

I'm assuming these cars get hundred thousands to millions in terms of sale, uh, search numbers. So it would probably be very hard for me to search FORD TEMPO so many times it makes it onto this list.

@Ford Tempo Fanatic: I'll help search Ford Tempo for you. In fact lets make it a Jalopnik wide event, if every one that reads Jalopnik searched Ford Tempo on Yahoo twice a day for a full year we could potentially hit the 10th spot.

In reply to Mustang RTR-C: A $135,000 Carbon Fiber Super-'Stang
Thanks for the comments everyone. I just wanted to clarify a few things and answer a few questions. I saw on here.

This car is insanely priced because it is insanely expensive to build. The profit at the 135k is minimal. I will send a full spec sheet out in the near future and I think everyone will understand I went a bit overboard with the quality of the build especially the parts list. I wanted the car to be Elite and outrageous, it was not built to sell however the craftmanship is just to incredible not to at least offer a few. While it was built to be one of the most insane street cars out there the car was not built to be the most insane performing vehicle on the road, however it should run with some pretty serious cars out there esspecially if you dial in the suspension to its potential.

Absolutely there is other cars that would handle better much cheaper. This is not some get rich scheme, I did this because it is something I have wanted to do for a long time and I wanted to do something new and different which is what Mustang RTR is.

The car weighs 3355 wet. We dropped about 400lbs + prior to adding super charger, intercooler, oversize radiator, Huge brakes etc..

Thanks again for the comments, hopefully as more details are released everyone will "get it" #mustang

Given that carbon fiber looks like snakeskin, they should have used the "Cobra" name on this.

Given the insane pricetag, they should have used "Shelby" name on this.

Given that those two names are already used, they should have dipped into the "special edition name bowl" on this.

Given they've done that about two dozen times and the bowl's a little empty, may I humbly submit my Mustang Boggle name:

The "Shelby Cobra Gittin' Metamucil" Mustang. #mustang

Can't call it a Rustang anymore if carbon fiber doesn't rust.

BMW is fully committed to making their pigs more svelte by investing a lot of money into carbon fiber research, in an effort to make it cost effective to use in all production vehicles. Read the news about it on autoblog.com #mustang

For $100K over the sticker, there'd be some epic weight savings over the stocker. And since he's not loudly crowing it either on his website or at the release to Speedhunters, I'm guessing "epic" is not appropriate.

I'm betting the weight savings are more in line with what you'd get pulling the rear seats and leaving the spare in the garage. For that, I could just buy the $35K stocker, sell the rear seats and the spare and pocket a little change. It won't have the power, but hey.

Let's say we do have a bundle of Bens to drop on a ride. It's a dumb thing to do - damn thing's gonna wear out eventually, waste of money, but WTF, let's look at it.

Find a Shelby GT500KR. There weren't many of them, but they're out there. Brand new, it was $80K. There's all manner of aftermarket hop-up goodies to be had, up to and including a bigass Kenne Bell twin screw supercharger that's good for over 700hp.

Okay, it ain't carbon fiber. Still made of steel. Still heavy. Gonna rust. But that supercharger package provides a helluva lotta thrust for all that iron, and is only another $30K on top of your $80K 500KR, assuming you paid full price on it. You've got $20K left over. That buys a lot of Waxoyl.

And you can still pull the rear seats out, and leave the spare in the garage.

    Just saying.

@Elhigh: Why the KR? Thats just as much money wasted as this carbon stang.

For a good light time, get the Standard GT, add the racing suspension kit with coil overs, twin turbo and build the stock 4.6. Gut the interior, cage, harness, big break kit, hood pins (because its cool) and some light weight 18" wheels and r compounds.

You will have a super light, effin fast car (600 + rwhp) that will be a hoot at the track. You will probably only have 50-65 k into the car, and you wont have to push around the Iron 5.4 L boat anchor that is in the Shelby KR.

Hell on a regular GT500 you can add a pulley, JLT intake, axle back exhaust, and a tune and be pushing 570 hp at the wheels. (450 stock) and thats only about 2500 bucks in modifications. #mustang

@H. Mushman: My point is that you can have comparable - or superior - power for less. There's no way in hell I'd drop that kind of scratch on a car. For that car, you can get a nice little rancher in the 'burbs. Might be a fixer upper, but hey - it's a roof in the rain, that's what counts.

If you're shopping in Detroit, you could probably buy a whole suburb for $135K. I understand they're going cheap these days. #mustang

    @Elhigh: True true!
Man I cannot believe the real estate prices in the states. Canada is pretty stable still, actually on the rise in areas.
If I was a smart man, I would go buy a rental property in Florida and wait for the market to come around. But I am an ass, and would probably blow it on magic beans (insert super charger, and shiny go fast bits)

I have a friend working in Detroit and living in Windsor, and he was telling me what you could buy in Detroit for the shrapnel in my back pocket.

    Scary times, scary times.

$100,000 above the sticker is a pretty hefty premium. At that rate, it'd better have shed over 500lbs, and I don't think it has.

I'm guessing the weight savings are probably more in line with what you'd get pulling the rear seats and dumping the spare. If that's the case, then I could just go out and buy a $35,000 Mustang, sell the rear seats and the spare, and be way ahead of the game. #mustang
