@Alfisted: My hair looks really stupid without the gel, I don't have an earring and my clothes look quite dapper, thankyouverymuch.

+1 For this car. And +1 for the First Drive post. It is one of the most memorable Jalop car reviews I have since being here. I love the fact that you offended many Canadians in the process of testing this car.
@SirNotAppearing: Actually, I bet there's a Norwegian bachelor farmer or two out there who really enjoys driving his WRX to the feed store on the weekends.
@combat chuck: What's a bachelor farmer? What does he feed the bachelors? Does that mean they stay permanently unmarriable? Is this like Clarkson Island?
I love these cars, but I am so rough on them it is unbelievable.
For some reason I always expect them to handle the abuse I throw at them, and they do, but when I walk away, they smell as if they are about to burst into flames, and there is always the sound of liquid gurgling as well.
@CoЯiolis Eff: Ha! I live in Portland, which, unless I'm incorrect in my recollection, is 1/3rd of subaru's national market and the home of subaru's US division HQ. The treehuggers here like to be able to get to the trees and mountains. This means going through a great deal of snow, mud, rain, rocks, etc. Without 4wd you can be sort of screwed come winter....
@PowerTryp: yeah, that was my reaction too. If you're going to consider the Mustang GT, shouldn't you also consider the Camaro SS and the Challenger SRT8? Because between the WRX and the 'Maro, I think we know which one Ray would be dragoning...
@docleo83: I just don't see how these two cars can be compared, they have completely different power trains, styling, appeal and target market. They are both really good at what they do but I don't honestly think people looking at one will cross shop the other.
@PowerTryp: If I had the money, I'd be that hypothetical buyer - despite being very different cars, they end up doing many things similar to each other.
@PowerTryp: People tend to be more price-sensitive not drivetrain-sensitive in this range and, though the Camaro SS and Challenger SRT8 are competitive with the Mustang GT in the muscle car world, they aren't on price. The Mustang GT is only a couple grand more than the WRX in this trim, compared to thousands more for the SRT8 or Camaro SS.
We've enjoyed both vehicles and, given the sub-30K price range we'd shop them both as an enthusiast.
@PowerTryp: Nice inadvertent (I think?) pun there: duly written "dually", like dual exhaust... okay, maybe my brain is just looking for humor where it doesn't exist, but I giggled anyway.
And I'm heart-clicking you back, because you've only been on here a few days, but you seem to have grasped the Jalop spirit pretty quickly and have had quite a few excellent comments. Stick around for more! :)
Subaru does it again with this car, we shreiked at the round bug eyes, but then we kind of liked it...
We didn't like the next iteration's rectangular lights because we liked the round ones, but it grew on you just like the next one with two spoilers and three piece grill...
Then this came out and we all crapped our pants at how ugly it was, some heralded it as "looking like a Corolla." But now, you look at it and say ... "Yea I get it..."
This poses the obvious question of how ugly can Subaru make the poor bastard before it stops growing on us after six months?
@Unregular: It's a good question. Being able to move all four wheels does not great handling always make. Otherwise, the F350 I had would have cleaned up. On the trail the car is more like a **** but under most road conditions the WRX suffers from a but of understeer. Three stars is good, especially because we're judging on a sports car scale.

How about the VW GTI and Civic Si? Both have the back seat, import image, and joy to drive.

Washing the gel out of your hair, losing the earing and putting on some decent clothes for a change, junior.

Based on what Matt said, the real mistake is the omission of the V6 Camaro.

but only *** for handling? since this car would be on the trail exactly 1% of it's life, then I guess the AWD is for nothing?
