    In the old day's, Maserati's were right up there with Ferrari's on the world sport's car stage. Then, car's like the Biturbo diluted it's image. Even car's like the 2002-07 Coupe's and Spyder's didn't live up to the companies history's. But the latest offering's are doing a lot to restore the companies former glory's. /ex-copy editor, /wondering if Jalopnik has jumped the shark.

    @Wes Siler: Have you ever done anything over 100 MPH on "rough, rual roads"?


    Anything worst than glass-like asphalt and I would like something with a crazy suspension - preferably rally-derived.


    Road/Track cars do NOT like jostling at speed. They are twitchy. And twitchy at 160 MPH is not a good idea.

    @Ellomdian: high quality suspension isn't just stiff, it's also very well controlled. Once you pass a certain speed it just kind of floats. But I defer to your clearly greater expertise.

    @Wes Siler: That's... what, 250+ km/h? Holy shitsticks, Wes. I've done 230+ on public roads, and that's scarier than all hell. I don't know where you managed to get those kinds of speeds, but sweet Jeebus, don't you remember what happened last time you tried stunts like that? Let me refresh your memory:

    @Unregular: This is starting to sound like I'm bragging or something. I'm not. It's a very fast car, it takes no skill whatsoever to push the pedal down and hold it there. 160 isn't that fast.

    @Wes Siler: It is on "some of Italy's roughest,most uneven roads". I don't doubt the speed having gone quicker than that in the right environment,i think it's the description of the roads that appears to be exaggerated.

    Try the Autobahn at 180+ mph in a TVR,even on a great road like that it's still dangerous.

    @Wes Siler: Floaty at speed sounds a lot like too much air getting under the car, and not enough downforce. A little more than the suspension's reaction time gliding over most of the minor imperfections - which is the reason I try to drive fast on dirt roads. Floaty is fine, as long as you don't have to do anything dramatic in a hurry. And that's when you find out just how good the car really is.

    @Wes Siler: In my mind 140ish is the upper border for "really f-ing fast" on a public road.


    Beyond that, and I'd much prefer a track with some crash engineering built into it.


    On an open road, there are too many things that can get in your way (cars, people, animals), and any swerve/blowout/off-"track" can have really catastrophic consequences (ditch, cliff, wall, fence), regardless of vehicular competence.

    Issue with build quality? Not in the last 7 or 8 years,in any of the ones i've driven they felt tight with not even a rattle or squeak,they've even been reliable although still a little disappointing to drive.

    @layabout now with V8 power: The last one I road in was admittedly used, at about 14K miles, but it still was solid and full of awesome. I guess I must be a bit gauche, according to the scoffing masses, because they do it for me. And I'm unapologetic.

    There's always been something about the Quattroporte's visage that throws me off. Its mouth looks like a kid when the dentist asks him to open his mouth and bite down.

    @A strolling player can't find his avatar: Good description. Something about the front end of all Maseratis has always looked weird to me too, kind of reminiscent of the American automakers' carp/catfish phase ten years ago. The Maserati trident is cool but it's too big. It would be much better if they actually just stuck a trident hood ornament on it, like a prole cow-catcher.
