    I was going to say that they whored out Sterling Moss name for another goddang SLR, but I can't. I just can't hate a car without a windscreen.

    Ludicrous supercars are not my thing, but this is gorgeous.

    In particular, it's a huge improvement on the regular SLR, which approaches Aztek-like levels of fugly.

    Well personally i don't like the car,just as i never liked the previous SLR. So close,yet so far just like Stirling Moss. Why can't Mercedes replicate the beauty of the Gullwing.

    @layabout bah humbug: How the fuck can you name a car after a racing driver then make it an auto. This car is not worthy of the name Stirling Moss.

    @layabout .... .- .--. .--. -.-- / -.-. .... .-. .. ... - ...:

    Not doing it for me, either. I could forgive the lack of a proper manual if it at least had a DSG-esque transmission, but not a 15-year-old tech 5-speed.

    As far as looks go, it still doesn't do much for me. It just seems far too contrived to be effective. Mercedes/McClaren needs to take a good long tour of Kew Gardens to learn how contrived beauty is properly done.

    As far as the original gullwing, if the rumors are true, is supposed to revive the its looks. Provided that it survives the carpocalypse.

    @layabout .... .- .--. .--. -.-- / -.-. .... .-. .. ... - ...: Meh. That's why they're making the SLC. Gullwings aren't that practical anyway.

    Really? It's an auto? I didn't really read the press release, but that just killed my excitement for the car. It's not like I'm going to get one and drive it myself, but the image of Stirling Moss driving 722 300 SLR with an auto does kill it.

    I agree, I never liked the SLR to begin with. It and its awful propeller rims.

    In every car game I own, the SLR isn't fast enough, it's overweight, and even when fully souped up, makes like 800hp. The car is no competition for the earlier CLK-GTR, which would have been a much better contender to wear the McLaren name than this... thing.

    This abomination continues to fail the "that's hot" supercar test, and it also fails the "damn quick" part of the supercar test.

    That is fucking sexy, right there, that is. About goddamn time the McMerc really made me desire it.

    I had to think about it for quite a while, but I am fairly certain that now joins the Veyron and the Reventon in the most exclusive club I know: cars that are actually better than sex.

    If Fabio buys one let the birds beware.

    BTW I don't see it. This is a hideous melange of bizarre lines that cannot be justified in any way, shape, manner, or form.

    It's the German equivalent of the Viper and we all know how craptastic the body is on that car.

    And is it just me, or did Mercedes just outdo Ford? We need an official count of how many "special edition" SLRs there are. It has gotta be close to the heard of Mustang variations put out to pasture by the blue oval. Isn't this like the 4th SLR variant commemorating the end of the SLR?

    @williamthomasmorris: There's not that many. SLR, SLR Cabrio, SLR 722 and 722 GT and SLR Sterling Moss.

    The Mustang has about a gazillion factory-backed special editions.
