Sooo... the young German is scramjet quick, but no mention of the old Aussie in the other car who actually *was* filling the mirrors of the Brawns?

"whom he could not pass on the narrow circuit as the Brazilian deployed his speed-boosting Kers device in every corner"

I'm sure you guys are writing this to make it "dramatic journalism" and I'm sure you know that KERS (not Kers) is limited to 6.6(repeating) seconds of power. And by graphics on screen during the race, the drivers don't use it "in every corner". If they could use KERS in every corner, you would see every team using it. And they would probably attach the switch to the same as the throttle if it was unlimited.

@EliseZinnikas: Pure drama. At times, he used all his boost for the straightaway, leaving none for the corners.

I wish I could keep a closer eye on F1, but whatever happened to Lewis Hamilton this year? Wasn't he unstoppable last year?

@combat chuck: Mercedes has just fallen apart in engineering this year is how I understand it. I think it was Bahrain where Hamilton was openly talking about glad he was to get fifth.

@Jeb_Hoge: Pretty much everything you know from last year has been thrown out this season. BMW, Ferrari and McLaren all stink, and Brawn (don't call me Honda), Red Bull and Toyota are kicking butt.

It can really only be understood with visual documentation however:

After watching the race, I have decided that F1 is back. You have BrawnGP and Red Bull both winning races, and Ferrari struggling. This, to me, shows that the rules changes, no matter how controversial, are having their intended effect.

This is the first chance I've had to watch F1 this year, and I must say the new cars are visually wretched.

Still, it was nice to have F1 and ALMS to watch in the same afternoon.

@Maxichamp: I look at this years GP cars, and think, that they look like an illustration that a front cover artist of science fiction novels would create as there image of the Grand Prix cars of the future. They have curves and bulges that appear to have been put there to look cool rather than provide function.

"...with no real racing taking place except for a few fun laps with McLaren's Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari's Felipe Massa."

Massa and Hamilton were never contenders in the race. Obviously you missed the action between Webber and Button. Maybe Speed had better coverage than what you saw live at the event. I thought it was a great race though.
