    @bigblockautoX: See video here: [videos.streetfire.net] in the first few seconds of the video you can plainly see that the engine is a transverse-mounted V-6. I'm fairly sure it's not a 358, and I would be willing to make a modest wager that it's not rear-drive.

    I particularly want to laugh in the face of the guy who bought the TA. Not that it isn't a cool car, but $73K?!? Damn man, that is retarded overpriced.

    Also why can't these cars be road legal? I assume it's because of emissions, but how hard would it be to tune them, or detune them as the case may be, to be compliant? I mean if you can get a 70s kit car or a 80s fierrari road legal, it shouldn't be impossible, right?

    @the artist formerly known as dolo54: It's mainly because the cars are either modified or built from non-production parts. They're shared skitless of being sued if a part fails and kills someone.

    @rocor: Exactly. It would probably not be difficult to circumvent the scrap title (as others above have pointed out), and get the car titled for road use, but your signed agreement not to do so would relieve GM of all responsibility if someone did get hurt. If you then resold the car and someone got hurt you would be responsible unless there was a similar agreement with the new buyer.

    @the artist formerly known as dolo54: Except that the only one that claims a 455 is a *Recreation according to the ad, and none of them seems to be a recent rotisserie restoration on a numbers-matching car. I think the whole rotisserie restoration thing is inherently crackpipe, but the price this fellow paid would have been good for a low-mileage numbers-matching 455SD car, too.

And trust me, the documentation alone can command a severe premium.

    @Mike the Dog: I think the only way out of this is to recreate the vehicle as a home build (legally not structurally). That way at least you can avoid having global corporation on your case.

    @rocor: I really don't think they give a rat's patootie (as I heard someone else say recently), whether you title it for road use or not. They just want to make sure if something bad happens, their collective ass is covered. If they make you sign a document stating that you won't attempt to title it, and you do anyway, they are absolved of liability.

    I watched some of the show on TV, but I wasn't really getting into it. It's hard to see fat old bastards at an auction buying cars worth millions, when I know there are a lot of people around the world trying to stave off the impending catastrophe caused by our current financapocolypse. Seems too decadent for me. (shrugs)

    The only car anywhere close to worth it on there is the GTO. Though to be honest, you could replicate it for cheaper and with better parts (think Brembo brakes instead of just using the Z06 ones) if you built it yourself. But honestly, $88k for a Silverado? $150k+ for some Corvette ZR-1's? And that Olds custom that came in at $220k is ugly as sin. I just want to know who was dumb enough to buy any of these.

    I love the color on that Olds Touring Roadster but the wheels are terrible. And it needs at least 12" cut out of the middle, 1/2 of it between the doors and the other half behind the rear doors to get the profile right.

    @GotaGurt: I saw this car being built for GM at California Street Rods. At that time, it was already public knowledge that Oldsmobile was going away. The work that went into this is unbelievable and I'm sure the bill to GM was higher than the auction result. Another classic example of bad decision making by the General.
