2009 Ford Fiesta Engine Specs Announced, Top-Of-The-Line Duratec Hits 118 HP

This morning, Ford continued their excruciatingly slow release of details on the 2009 Ford Fiesta. Today's morsel is the top-of-the-line new Fiesta's Duratec gas engine will be rated at just over 118 HP, good for a 0-to-62 MPH jog in just under 10 seconds, yet still providing a combined fuel economy of 47.9 MPG (That'd be 38.9 MPG for us colonials). Not too shabby. More details below.

Diesel Ford Fiesta Smokes Prius, Gets 62.5 MPG

Talk about having the right product in the wrong place. Ford will be debuting a version of the new as-of-now Euro-only Ford Fiesta Econetic at the British Motor Show later this month equipped with a miserly 89 HP, 1.6-liter TDCi turbodiesel engine. How miserly? It's good for 75 MPG in imperial gallons, which gives it a Prius-smoking 62.5 MPG here in the US of A. Something tells us Ford would have no problem selling a few of them here, considering the tectonic shift towards smaller, more fuel-efficient cars we saw evidence of yesterday. No word on US availability of the Econetic when the Fiesta hits our shores as a 2010 model, but it's a fair wager Mulally and Co. are mulling it over.

Ford To Announce Plans To Build New Fiesta In Mexico, Wear Sombreros

¡Arriba! The Wall Street Journal is reporting this morning Ford will announce plans later today to build the U.S.-bound new Fiesta microcar somewhere in Mexico. Although Ford's not commenting on the report — other than claiming they'll still be bringing it to market in 2010 and they're not willing to say where it'll be built, we guess we'll find out for sure sometime today. We happen to believe Mexico's exactly the right place for a Fiesta, don't you think? We also hear Chrysler will be building the new Dodge Maple Syrup in Canada and Toyota will be building the new Scion Amerigasm in Washington, D.C. [WSJ via Reuters via Automotive News (sub. req.)]

Brit Chops Car In Half To Protest Aggressive Clamping

Parking a junk car on the side of the road in front of your house is a time honored grease monkey tradition. Ian Taylor was simply maintaining that tradition with his junk Ford Fiesta at his Tredworth, UK home when the Clampers tried to get one over on him. Though the Fiesta was parked only an inch on the pavement, a clamp was placed on the unlicensed car. Not one to let someone take advantage of him, Mr. Taylor took things into his own hands. More »

Ford Fiesta RS Gets Green Light, Hole In US Lineup Now Painfully Evident

Tipster Martin pointed us in the direction of the Dutch version of Autoweek, who have stated the Ford Fiesta RS has been approved for production. The car would of course be based on the 2009 Ford Fiesta and will be getting a turbocharged 1.6 liter four good for a speculated 200 HP. Making things even more interesting they say some of the interior bits will be chucked in favor of weight savings and help to get the little terror from zilch to 62 in six seconds. We're assuming since this would be a positively awesome car, it won't be making its way to US dealers... ever. [Autoweek.nl]

Ford Fiesta 3 and 5 Door Live And In Color, Retina-Searing Color

Lord almighty these cars are bright in person. Ford went ahead and dropped the real deal Ford Fiesta on us and they went out of their way to slather then in colors the Joker would be very proud of. We're pretty excited by the idea of a compact Ford in the market again, though we don't have confirmation yet on the 5 door coming stateside yet. One thing the original (good) Focus was never faulted for was its handling, and it's something Ford has figured out which we're hoping transfers to a potentially more flickable car.

Ford Fiesta Video Will Move You, Though Fiesta Itself Will Not Move

If you didn't get enough of the Ford Fiesta 3-door, we've got some video that explores some more angles of the new global hatch. As with many first-release videos, the camera is doing all of the movement. Zoom in. Zoom out. Zoom in. Zoom out. Also, the first part of the video seems to indicate the Fiesta might be from space. Though we've got scores of photos (see below), this clip does give a better idea of the rear proportions of the car.

Ford Fiesta Three Door Pictures And Details, To Be Called Fiesta For US Market

The release of information regarding the new Ford Fiesta, the latest global small car platform from Ford, brings lots of good news. First, the new Fiesta maintains all of the kinetic design language from the Ford Verve concepts. Second, it'll be available just about everywhere Ford makes cars, with production in North America for the North American market. Third, the car is still going to be called the Fiesta. Even in the US of A. All of those years of pleading for Ford of Europe products are finally paying off. The Fiesta will officially bow at the Geneva Motor Show, though no word yet on when it'll officially make a North American Debut. More pictures and press releases below the jump.

UK Fiesta Gets Power Boost, No Closer To America

For those who want tiny-Ford power but are too busy to make your own SHOgun or too impatient to wait for the impending Mazda2ish vehicle, you may want to look away. The Ford Fiesta ST, already a capable little vehicle, is getting two dealer-fit performance packages for the UK. The Mountune Performance Stage 1 package adds a high-flow air induction system, performance exhaust system and engine re-calibration good for 165 HP out of the 2.0-litre Duratec ST. Stage 2 package comes in at about $3,600 (plus installation) and boosts power to 185 horsepower. Because they're licensed through Ford upgrades do come with warranties. Press release, if you can stand it, below the jump.

The Ford Verve Sedan Concept, Now In High-Resolution

Although Ford's new sedan version of the Verve concept's already been unveiled at the Guangzhou International Auto Show and we've already given you the press release and some low-res shots on the Sedan concept of the Ford Verve, we've just now noticed Ford's released some high-res shots showing off the big-hatch b-car from Ford. On the off chance the Euro side of the pond ends up winning the design competition currently underway at Ford between the 'merican "Bold Moves" and the European "Bold Mouths" — we figured you might like to see what we could be getting stateside. Without further ado — here's the hot shots galleried up for your pleasure below.

2009 Ford Fiesta

While we're here in Frankfurt waiting to check out the Ford Verve — a concept car providing design hints of the 2009 Ford Fiesta — Brenda Priddy's spy photographers caught what they think is the actual 2009 Ford Fiesta playing around outside in full camo. Unlike last time however, it's no longer under a blue shroud. And of course, if Motor Trend is to be believed, the exciting news for Fiesta fans here in the US is they'll be exporting it stateside for the first time since 1980. More of what Brenda's got to say after the jump.
