You need to start with 800hp so you will have 400hp by the time you get to 14,000 ft. Not so much oxygen for hungry little turbo charged engines up there...
@Where the Buckster's Roam: I fully agree. I would watch this. Maybe we can get that douche from Pinks to do something at PP, then at least Speed would know that it's there.
Pretty cool, but just doesn't have the same punch as Climb Dance, the film it was trying to emulate. Also, it doesn't seem that this car had any kind of anti-lag system like most WRC cars have...the power seemed to be seriously lacking out of corners until the turbo finally spooled which seemed to really kill the corner exit speeds on some of the tighter corners.
The Peugeot 405 that Ari Vatenen drove in Climb Dance did it in 10:47.22 back in freakin 1988 with only 600HP.
I just read on Motor Trend's site that not only did one of the rear brakes seize up, causing the tire to catch on fire, but they also had a turbo failure for the last 5km, so perhaps that was causing all the lag shown in the video.
I heard reports of Gronholm having turbo issues near the top, seems that this kinda confirms it. I didn't hear any turbo whistle or wastegate for the last minute or so....anyone know for sure if this is the case?
@bluecoupe: That is my understanding as well. It sounds like he would have at least won the class, if not beat the 10-minute mark, had his turbo(s) not taken a dump.
To all YouTube posters; This is a proper motor video. No stupid ass techno shit, just pure, sweet, sweet internaly combusted music.
It's really not that hard to do.
@beercheck - Commentin' Dirty: I met team members at the race... and got the feel that they were a tad cocky. Pikes peak is unlike any other race in the world... and if you haven't done it, and finished... you shouldn't expect to win on your first time out. Awesome cars... but until they cool off a bit, it will be difficult to win like that.
