I think I could master the art of 'old world craftsmanship' at GM in exactly 3 minutes. And, I if I was buying a world class performance sedan, do I want 'old world' anything on it?

@California Stig: You know, I've always wondered about the entire nature of placing a premium on "hand-made!" anything.

Personally, I like machine-made stuff. Unless it's a piece of artwork or something, I want consistency, dammit!

mkay, how exactly does that combine "old world craftsmanship with modern robotics?" It starts with a person putting a piece of aluminum in to a machine, the robots do all the work, and then the person pulls it out of the machine. Where's the old world?

Did you see the press in there anywhere?

That was assembly. The 1200+ ton press of whatever is fed by automated coil.

But overall, people are still involved in the mfg of goods because it is most cost effective for tasks like that.

I just assumed it was like this:

    1. I sit in driver's seat
    2. I take car for spin
    3. Hood suddenly has giant bulge

The lower dash is also completely destroyed, but that's another issue.
