    I'm just disappointed that this dress dosen't come with a manual transmission. And our European friends will be incredibly disappointed that their dress hasn't been available in a diesel yet.

    Buying a dress... You go alone, 'cause your friends wouldn't stop complaining about the price, making you uneasy about spending even though you've already budgeted for it. You're still unsure if you like how it looks and afraid to hear what your friends would say. There's no way you could bring your husband because he'll be bored and might inadvertently rush you into a decision, even though he's completely supportive and not afraid to give an honest opinion. But despite all that it seems like it will suit your needs and you'd like to see how it looks at home. Besides it's not like you can't take it back if you change your mind in a couple hours.
    Yeah, I've been dress shopping... once. I can see how buying a CTS Sport Wagon might be like that.
    But Kate compared it to trying on a dress... which is completely different, especially with her self-image.

    @Hello Mister Walrus: In fairness "some dude who comments on a blog I read" doesn't necessarily count as 'someone you know'".

    Although, I think I know of more male wagon owners/drivers than female.

    I think a lot of women have an aversion to wagons for fear of seeming too mother-y.

    They'll tell you this as they climb into the SUV that's one of 90 in the parking lot.

    BTW, I've own 2 wagons I paid for with my own money. Volvo 850 in the BTCC days, and an MTM Stage 2 A4 that would probably rip whatever non-wagon you own several new ones.

    Try now.

    I was born in '82. Almost no one my age rode around in a station wagon as a kid. It was minivans from 85-95 and SUVs from 95-on.

    I'd have a hard time buying a minivan. I'd rock a proper 4x4 SUV (Suburban, etc) if I needed to tow. I'd never buy a crossover.

    I know she directly addresses the ladies in her monologue, but everything about Kate Walsh communicates rather powerfully to a demographic we can safely label "horny middle-aged men."

    So in terms of audience targeting, this ad manages to touch all the bases. Which is, incidentally, what I'd like to do with Kate Walsh.
