I still can't figure out if being a Porsche designer is the easiest job in the world or one of the most difficult.
On the one hand you have, "make it look like every other model year for the past twenty-five years."
On the other you have, "make sure you change every panel but make it look almost exactly the same as every other model year for the past twenty-five years."
@layabout: I really like the Cayman but the Boxster has never come close to the prettiness of the original concept. They might have worked on that over the years.
Concerning mileage: The manufacturers' emphasis on MPG has created a weird response from me: When I see Porsche touting "26 mpg!" I wonder, "What kind of mileage did Porsches get 20 years ago? 40 years ago? Is this number supposed to be impressive?"
@layabout: When I got my current Boxster, I tried the Z4 too. It was an easy choice, the feeling of the Porsche is so much nicer... and it has way more room for luggage.
The only problem with the Boxster is that I'm in a 10-year-delay affordability cycle. So I see something like this come out and I have to wonder if I can drive my car for 10 more years.
@The Name's Ash78, Housewares: Buy a 1999/2000 model Boxster. Can be had with very low mileage for under $20k. Loads of fun and very practical (compared to any other roadster).
@The Name's Ash78, Housewares: Ahs: My Dad still has his '99 and is closing in on 100K. The car has not required any new parts, though new tires were expensive, and he broke the vinyl window.
The car performs well, but it has all kinds of squeaks and rattles. I don't care for the ride harshness, but to each his own.
@johnnyichiban: A Miata with what stuffed under the hood? I'm intrigued by your idea, but if you're talking about a stock Miata, I would have to call you names like crazy or uninformed.

That should do it.
