We can hardly wait for Series 12 to start, particularly because of the American road trip Jeremy and the boys had in a 2009 Corvette ZR1, 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 and a 2009 Cadillac CTS-V. Though we'll have to see if their hour-long special trip to Vietnam is part of the upcoming series, or a stand-alone. [via TopGear]

<![CDATA[ Dodge Challenger Super Stock Drag Package Available For Order...If You're Man Enough ]]> We're stoked that Chrysler is offering a Dodge Challenger Drag Pak turn-key racer, but how exactly do you go about ordering one from your local Dodge dealer? Since these mighty Mopars are going to be limited production, you gotta prove you're worthy. First, you're required to submit your application in writing to a dealer, who will then fax it to Mopar Motorsports' secret lair. Keep in mind that this is all first-come first-served, so you probably want to get a fax confirmation to make sure your paperwork went through. But what qualifications will buyers have to meet?

It's recommended that potential buyers have "a current Competition License or sanctioning body affiliation prior to ordering their vehicle." So, n00bs need not apply. That's because Mopar wants to put their best foot forward with the Drag Challenger. They've even specified that the "buyer is encouraged to have the Challenger Drag Pak vehicle in competition within a reasonable amount of time." We're assuming that's also to weed out any speculating collector-types, as the profit margin on the vehicles will likely be slim to none. Besides, nobody should ever take a brand new race car and seal it in a bubble in a locked garage. [Mopar via Allpar]

<![CDATA[ SMS Supercharger Boosts Hemi Horsepower By 45% In Challenger, Charger ]]> SMS, Steve Saleen's new operation, wants to sell 2005-09 Mopar Hemi owners a supercharger that the company claims can bump underhood horsepower by as much as 45%. The SMS 296 supercharger has some unique features, including an internal intercooler and a low profile, letting the blower sit between the cylinder banks and fit entirely under the hood. Obviously, we can't verify any of the company's output claims, but if they'd send us a Challenger so-equipped, we'd be happy to amend this post with full test results. Steve? Anyone? Full release with specs after the jump.

Orange County, California. (August 7, 2008) Automotive icon Steve Saleen and his new company SMS are proud to introduce the first product in the SMS line of ultra-high performance technical parts, the SMS 296 Supercharger™, designed, engineered, manufactured and assembled in-house at our 150,000 square foot facility. Mopar owners of 2005 to 2009 HEMI 5.7 and HEMI 6.1 vehicles are now able to boost under hood horsepower by up to 45% with innovative new dual-screw supercharger (patent pending).

With over 30 years of racing experience Steve Saleen and the SMS design and engineering team have created the ultimate supercharger for Mopar enthusiasts. Now the aftermarket community can take advantage of the SMS 296 Supercharger™, which will be standard equipment on the highly anticipated 2009 SMS 570 Challenger™ and SMS 570X Challenger™, with power ratings from 500 to over 700 horsepower respectively!

The SMS 296 Supercharger™ is packed with innovative features created by SMS engineers to provide optimum boost in an exceptionally compact package.

At the top of the list is the Delta-Frame™ internal intercooler (patent pending), with dual thin-core intercoolers and single-pass coolant flow. The intercooler design provides for a considerable increase in surface area, which has the effect of minimizing pressure drop and optimizing thermal characteristics. The intelligent configuration also acts as a mechanical diverter for effective air transfer into the ports, while the angled manifold enables packaging of runners that are much longer than in conventional layouts.

The long intake runner optimizes airflow efficiency and provides the SMS 296 Supercharger™ with an extremely low profile. This arrangement means that it nestles comfortably within the V, and under the stock hood of all applications, as well as accommodating a bypass system for 3-way cruising off-boost.

At the heart of the supercharger are the asymmetric multi-lobe compressor screws, which are machined in-house by SMS on state-of-the-art CNC equipment. The screw concept is among the most efficient of all supercharger configurations. However, it is also one of the most challenging to manufacture.

In order to minimize parasitic losses, it is crucial to maintain incredibly tight tolerances between the profiles of the asymmetrical lobes. Running dry at speeds of up to 16,000 rpm, there is no room for error. In finishing the screw profiles, the SMS flexible CNC machining facility is working to exacting tolerances. The flexibility of the equipment also means that changes in the screw profiles can be accommodated for different applications.

The innovations on the SMS 296 Supercharger™ carry through to its exterior, with SMS Tailor Made™ custom finishes and powder coat color options to match most Mopar colors. Now enthusiasts can match the impact under the hood with the one at the rear wheels.

The complete SMS 296 Supercharger™ aftermarket assembly looks great and installs easily under the stock hood of all applications including; the Dodge Challenger SRT-8, Dodge Challenger R/T, Dodge Charger SRT-8, Dodge Charger R/T, Dodge Magnum SRT-8, Dodge Magnum RT, Chrysler 300C SRT-8, Chrysler 300C, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8, and Select 5.7L Hemi Dodge Trucks.

<![CDATA[ Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pack Finally Revealed ]]> After more than a year of anticipation, Chrysler has taken the wraps off the Drag Package for the 2008 Dodge Challenger (Read our three-part review of the SRT8 here!). At least 100 of the Mopar muscle machines will be built, each tailored for the specific NHRA category in which the buyer wishes to compete. The big decision will be whether you want a 5.9-liter Magnum wedge, 5.7-liter Hemi or the big 'n nasty 6.1-liter Hemi. Any of them can be paired with either a manual or automatic transmission. Full details in the press release below the jump.

The Drag Package Challengers are also stripped down and fitted with lightweight components like a composite lift-off style hood, which also comes in handy if you want to disturb the peace in your neighborhood. Of course, the cars won't be street legal, so if you want to cruise Woodward, you'll be asking for trouble.

Center Line, Mich., Jul 13, 2008 - Mopar® is bringing the iconic Dodge Challenger muscle car to National Hot Road Association (NHRA) drag-racing competition. Mopar revealed two Dodge Challenger Drag Race Package Cars at the 29th Annual Mopar Mile-High Nationals today before thrilled fans at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colo. Mopar Mile-High Nationals is the longest-running NHRA sponsorship.

"Big Daddy" Don Garlits and Judy "Miss Mighty Mopar" Lilly were behind the wheels for their inaugural track run. Garlits drove the car featuring the Stone White paint scheme. Lilly was behind the wheel of the "Mopar Liquid Metal" prototype. NHRA named Garlits the #1 driver of the Top 50 drivers from its first 50 years. His victories and accomplishments are virtually unmatched in drag-racing history. "Miss Mighty Mopar" is one of the female pioneers in drag racing. Spending 12 years on the NHRA circuit, Lilly is the only female driver to win two NHRA national events in one year.

Mopar built the first two Challenger Drag Race Package Cars for development and testing for its new Challenger Package Car program. Based on the Challenger SRT8®, the prototypes were finished in Stock Eliminator configuration. They ran successfully in June 2008 as proof-of-concept and for NHRA certification. Mopar dropped approximately 1,000 lbs. off the production Challenger SRT8 by eliminating major production components and systems. To accentuate the weight savings, they also feature added composite, polycarbonate and lightweight components designed for drag racing that will be part of the new Package Car program.

The engine was repositioned to improve driveline angle and weight distribution. The 116-inch wheelbase was shortened by ½ inch. They also feature a front cradle with bolt-in crossmember and solid engine mounts.

"Today is a great day for Mopar, Dodge, SRT, drag racers and motorsports enthusiasts everywhere. Not made for the streets, our drag-race-only Challengers will be running soon in NHRA competition—the best grassroots racing series in the world," said Sunil Lahoti, Mopar Marketing and Brand Manager, Chrysler LLC. "And who better to drive our new Challenger Package Cars on their inaugural track run than 'Big Daddy' and 'Miss Mighty Mopar'—the greatest drag racer of all time and a female pioneer of the sport."

New Dodge Challenger Drag Race Package Car Program by Mopar
The first drag-race, factory-prepped package cars built in 40 years, the new Challenger Drag Race Package Car by Mopar builds on the heritage of the limited-edition 1968 HEMI®-powered Package Cars. Those '68 Dodge Darts and Plymouth Barracudas solidified the Mopar brand as a quarter-mile force.

Mopar will build a minimum of 100 Challenger Drag Race Package Cars to meet NHRA requirements. Based on the production Dodge Challenger SRT8, Mopar's modern factory-prepped Challenger Drag Race Package Car will begin as a special Body-in-White (BIW) from Chrysler's Brampton, Ontario, Canada, assembly plant. The body sealer, sound deadener and undercoat will be eliminated. To reduce vehicle weight, major production component and systems will also be eliminated including: windshield wiper assembly, complete HVAC system, all airbag components, rear seats, power steering system, exhaust system and underbody heat shields, cross-car and side impact door beams, rear bumper beam and rear deck lid spoiler.

The drag racer has three engine options—6.1-liter or 5.7-liter HEMI or 5.9-liter Magnum® Wedge—as well as manual or automatic transmission.

A build book/owner's manual will be provided to document the modifications made to the Challenger SRT8 as well as provide recommendations to finish the Package Car for Stock Eliminator competition. To accentuate weight savings, there are unique drag-race components in the Package Car program including: composite lift-off hood with functional scoop, Viper-style front seats, polycarbonate door windows, lightweight cooling module with electric fan, manual rack and pinion steering, special cable-operated deck lid release, special lightweight front brake assembly and special cable-operated throttle linkage and pedal assembly.

The Challenger Drag Race Package Car will be eligible to run in three Eliminator categories—Comp, Super Stock and Stock—and potentially 40 classes.

Depending upon the configuration selected, the U.S. Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the Challenger Drag Race Package Car program will range from the low to mid $30s. Each car will carry an identification plate with sequential serial number.

The Challenger Drag Race Package Car will be available for order in late August to early September. A toll-free number will be designated for ordering. Details will be posted on www.mopar.com.

Now in its fifth decade, NHRA is the world's largest motorsports sanctioning body with 80,000 members, 140 member tracks, more than 35,000 licensed competitors and more than 5,000 member-track events. NHRA is second only to NASCAR in terms of fan attendance.

70 Years of Mopar
When Chrysler bought Dodge in 1928, the need for a dedicated parts manufacturer, supplier and distribution system to support the growing enterprise led to the formation of the Chrysler Motor Parts Corporation (CMPC) in 1929.

Originally used in the 1920s, Mopar (a simple contraction of the words MOtor and PARts) was trademarked for a line of antifreeze products in 1937. It was also widely used as a moniker for the CMPC. The Mopar brand made its mark in the 1960s—the muscle car era. The Chrysler Corporation built race-ready Dodge and Plymouth "package cars" equipped with special high-performance parts. Mopar carried a line of "Special Parts" for super stock drag racers and developed its racing parts division called Mopar Performance Parts to enhance speed and handling for both road and racing use.

Today, Chrysler LLC's Global Service & Parts division is responsible for the manufacturing and distribution of nearly 250,000 authentic Mopar replacement parts, components, restoration parts, accessories and performance parts for Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge vehicles sold around the world. To assure quality, reliability and durability, all Mopar parts and accessories are designed in strict adherence to Chrysler engineering standards.

<![CDATA[ Leaving On A Jet Plane... ]]>

Yes, just as we thought we might do in part two of our review of the new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, we had to stifle a tear when we left it this morning as this car's left an indelible mark in our mind. The only cars we think that could come close to the feelings evoked by this Motown muscle car would be the next-gen 2010 Ford Mustang and the 2010 Chevy Camaro — both ready to arrive in the next year. We can't wait.

For the moment, take another gander at our three-part review below:

<![CDATA[ Dealers, Supercharge Your Dodge Challengers! ]]> At this years SEMA show, Dodge will be unveiling a new supercharger kit for the 2008 Dodge Challenger, providing the potential to significantly boost output from the stock 425 HP (in SRT8 trim). The dealer-installed option will be sold through the Mopar brand, and if the co-developed kits from Speedfactory are any indication, it'll consist of a Vortec blower with a cold air intake good for a whopping 630 HP. Hey, that's right up there with the Corvette ZR1's numbers.

Okay, so the Challenger will still fall behind thanks to its rather portly 4,140 lb curb weight, but that'll be one hell of a ride. Oh, and don't get yourselves in a tizzy over that Plum Crazy Purple Challenger; we did that one ourselves, Chrysler style. [MotorAuthority]

Turns out it was Alison Haislip of G4TV doing a bit of test dragging with Chrsylerberus' new Mopar muscle car. Here we get to see her take a stab at a Shelby Mustang that almost loses it into the wall while losing to a girl — well, at least that's what it looks like from the editing. We're just stuck wondering how a bunch of tech nerds got their hands on one of these before us. Hey Dodge, are you listening? [G4TV]

<![CDATA[ Dodge Challenger Races Honda Civic SI At Drag Strip ]]> Loyal reader Jack found himself at Irwindale Raceway in SoCal yesterday for the run-what-ya-brung night and lookie what was there, a brand new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8. Here we catch a glimpse of the lady driver givin' it to a Honda Civic SI in an 1/8th mile run which sees the new Mopar take it easy all the way to a winning finish. At least that's what we hope we're seeing. If a Challenger doesn't obliterate an SI at the strip something is very wrong. We're still wondering who the blonde bombshell behind the wheel was. Anyone out there know? Also, does the Challenger pictured here have the legendary drag package we've heard about for almost a year now?

We'd have to label all this Challenger material we've been posting, Posting! POSTING!!! of late some kind of steady build to this cargasmic moment. Obviously, with previous coverage, you've been forced to ponder, perhaps question some of the performance data, skeptically consider the Challenger's true aerial capabilities, and of course study many, many still pictures.

But now you can just kick back and watch as we inaugurate the Challenger Channel.

<![CDATA[ Chicago Auto Show: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Live And In The Shiny Orange Flesh ]]> What better way to kick off the sales of your new muscle car, the last relevant piece of new product you're going to introduce for a while, than to invite a couple of guys who are best known for selling motorcycles. Paul, Sr. and Paul, Jr. of American Chopper fame were on hand to show off the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8. And what did we learn that you may not have learned from any of the sixteen or seventeen Challenger posts that already ran today? Dodge was smart enough to low-ball the 0-60 mph in the initial press release, as the actual car gets a more respectable 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds with a top speed of 170 mph and a quarter-mile in the 13's. There is also video of it jumping, as seen in this image of questionable authenticity, but it only goes about 8 inches off the ground. Press release below the jump — in case you missed it the last time.

Lucky for us, Hardigree is a local, so he had a few ideas of where we might find Chrysler hiding their new muscle car. We've numbered the seven most obvious errors, bad clones and just outright injustices. You identify them and hopefully add some more. The animated "A New Day" spot is out from Chrysler, and while the commercial isn't about a homicidal pre-teen henchman (though we weren't that far off), there is a cameo by the 2008 Dodge Challenger. We don't exactly need to go into the details of how this version doesn't match up with the production version so we'll just say there are a few differences. <![CDATA[ 2008 Dodge Challengers Hanging Out At Roush With All The Cool Kids ]]> A reader over at CarScoop managed to catch a pair of production-looking 2008 Dodge Challenger muscle cars hanging out at Roush, tuner of most things Ford. There are a couple of interesting things going on here. First, there don't appear to be any racing stripes, which could lead you to think these aren't SRT8's, though we think they are. Second, they're hanging out in front of Roush.

Is this a couple of engineers with Challengers paying a visit to mock Roush and their Mustang entrant into the Muscle Car Wars? Is Roush going to be tuning the next generation of Challengers? Did the drivers stop to take a leak? We don't know, but we're happy to speculate. Nope, unfortunately not. You see, this is Roush Industries, not Roush Performance. That's like an entirely different company and stuff. (UPDATE: The company pictures is not Roush Performance, but Roush Industries. Both are part of the same company, but the former tunes Stangs while the latter is a parts supplier)[Oot via CarScoop]

<![CDATA[ 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, Now With A Real Rear End ]]> Thanks to the kind folks over at Autoweek — and via the folks at the Line on the Inside over at Edmunds — we can now add an official press shot of the 2008 Dodge Challenger to our growing collection from the broken embargo. The main difference between concept and reality is the loss of the LED rear lights. The tips on the twin exhausts also become single rectangles, there's some added detail in the bumper, the reverse lights are a nifty single, central unit and the rear spoiler is all black. You can compare and contrast the changes in the galleries below. Don't forget, we'll be bringing you live coverage from the Challenger's official unveiling from the Chicago Auto Show next week.

But check out that silver plastic around the instrument cluster. Most importantly, check out that leather-and-chrome wrapped shifter. Now that we like. In an editorial written in the wake of the silliness that was Chrysler's embargo strategy on the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 reveal for the Chicago Auto Show, Dutch Mandel, the hard-charging editor of AutoWeek, echoes our pleas from last week. Quick summary: The auto industry needs to let the embargoes go and bring the "show" back to auto shows. We welcome Dutch & Co. to the trenches — they've got themselves a seat here next to us. Heck, we've even got room for guys like Marty Padgett over at The Car Connection. We're still waiting for others with the necessary intestinal fortitude to join the fight — but we think Motor Trend may not have the thick skin we once thought they had. Pity. [AutoWeek]

<![CDATA[ Concept Dodge Challenger SRT8 Versus Production Dodge Challenger SRT8 ]]> Everyone had so much fun with the Honda Pilot Sketch v. Reality that we thought we'd look at the production Challenger SRT8 leaked photos and the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 concept car to see what's changed, what's stayed the same and what we have to look forward to at the Chicago Auto Show.

ChallengerSRT8comparo_bottom.jpg
1. CROSSHAIRS GRILLE &ndash The most obvious immediate change is the concept's crosshairs grille, which gets dropped in favor of a blacked-out mesh job similar to that found on the original Challengers.

2. B-PILLAR &ndash The B-pillar seems to exist on the production model, though small and black.

3. FRONT FENDER &ndash Though more pronounced on the silver SRT8 seen testing, there's a small lip spoiler on the edge of the front fender that doesn't appear to be on the concept version.

4. WHEELS & TIRES &ndash Unfortunately, the production model might have treads on the tires as opposed to the nearly treadless slicks on the concept version.

5. REAR LIGHTBAR/GAS TANK &ndash The other major change is the rear lightbar, which was far more stylized and pronounced on the concept version. Oh, and the real version needs a place to put the gas in the car.

6. MIRRORS &ndash The mirrors on the concept version were much closer to the A-pillar, which gave it a sleeker design but probably made it less functional. The production version has mirrors that poke out much further.

7. ORANGE PAINT &ndash There will be at least two paint jobs for the new Challenger, including the orange and black from the concept.

8. TURN SIGNALS &ndash To please the "safety Nazis," the production version is going to include turn signals fore of the front wheels.

Overall, the new Challenger SRT8 is as faithful to the original concept as you should ever expect from an automaker. Props to the design team on the transition. Do you see anything we missed?

<![CDATA[ Car & Driver Cover Clinic: Which Embargoed Shot of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Do You Want on their April Cover? ]]> Car_and_Driver_Challenger.jpg The buff boys over at the buff book named Car und Driver appear to be needing some crucial reader input on their April issue. They, or a duly-sworn representative, have taken it upon themselves to send out some versions of their cover to a small clinic group of readers to determine which shots should get the limelight of being an actual C&D cover. What's really funny to us is we remember overhearing a conversation involving Editor-in-Chief Csaba Csere at Narita Airport in the Northwest Worldclub waiting for our flight back from the Tokyo Auto Show. Csaba was loudly proclaiming how his publication is very careful with embargoed information, never — ever — letting outsiders have access to covers. We also remember hearing him say that other outlets (in the case being talked about, it was Motor Trend's accidental embargo breach on the Nissan GT-R) need to be more careful with covers that reveal sensitive information — and that Car & Driver doesn't ever run clinics or provide PR teams with covers that include embargoed information. Yes, well, we're assuming Csaba's going to have a little bit of egg on his face this morning. Because as you can see, there's two possible covers of Car & Driver's April issue — one above and one below the fold, each revealing the same thing — the new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 in it's full glory, and a 425 HP rating — well before the official unveil of the new muscle car at the Chicago Auto Show in two weeks. Oh yes, and the new Pontiac G8 GT will have a HP rating of 362. One more pic below the jump and of course, our gallery of spy photos below. UPDATE: AutoWeek's gone ahead and jimmied the door on the embargo, busting it even further open with some more embargoed press shots on the new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 — so we're going ahead and dropping the whole salvo as well in the gallery below.
UPDATE #2: We've got a great graphical look at the differences between the concept and production versions of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8.

<![CDATA[ Allpar Snags Official Dealer Invoice on 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 ]]> This official dealer invoice's the closest we'll ever come to owning one of Dodge's new muscular muscle cars, the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, so we're savoring it now. As expected, the invoice shows factory pricing (with MyGig!) at just over $40,000. Full dealer markup doesn't look to be too tough on the wallet — just less than $2,000 more — bringing the total price up to $41,985. Now just heap on the extra $20K for actually getting your name on a list to buy one and you're positively golden.

<![CDATA[ Dodge Challenger SRT8 Buyers Lining Up, Paying $20K Over Sticker ]]> Buyers are getting desperate to ensure one of the five thousand 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8's initially rumored to be available for purchase will end up nestled snugly in their garage. We've already told you about the pricing details on the SRT8 Challenger, and the impressive presale orders of Dodge's new muscle car, but now CNN is reporting buyers are bidding up to twenty grand on top of sticker for one of the reborn legends. The Mopar madness is reaching a fevered pitch folks.

Let's add this up. Base sticker is $37,995, gas guzzler tax will probably run another $2,000, and now top it all with a premium of $20,000 - grand total $59,995. If you throw in destination, title, and all that baloney, it's comfortably over sixty thousand dollars. We don't know if anybody is paying attention here, but that puts the new Challenger in the same price range as a very nice original Challenger. Madness, madness! Oh, and did we mention it now looks like Chrysler will be building a few more of the up-charged Mopars to keep up with demand? Silly over-paying muscle car fans. Do we blame them for wanting to play a role in the new muscle car wars? [via CNNMoney]

Dodge has gone and revealed the same shots today — only this time in high resolution. So check the photos out below in their full glory — and note again the crossbar-delete option they've added since the concept car design. We'll of course be there live to see the official unveiling at the Chicago Auto Show in just two months.

<![CDATA[ Mopar Madness: 6,000 Presales of 2008 Challenger SRT8 ]]> Dodge just issued a release exclaiming how excited they are over all of the excitement for the Dodge Challenger SRT8 (yes, the same Challenger we just revealed the first detail shots of earlier today, and first to show you a commercial on last week) — an excitement instigated by their release of pricing for said muscle car earlier this week. In fact they've already had a whole 6,000 folks drop a deposit down since Monday, with 4,300 slapping their piggy bank on the table on the first day alone. They're also claiming that they'll be revealing some form of "eye candy" later this week. All of this is fine and good — and we'll even let them slide for using our service-marked and patent pending phrase "Muscle Car Wars" at the end of the release below the jump without charging them the usual $2 per use we normally charge. Ain't we a nice buncha guys?

2006 Dodge Challenger Concept

What has muscle cars fans squealing like teenage girls at a Hannah Montana concert?

Try the all-new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8®. Just in the first DAY of orders, more than 4,300 people plunked down a deposit for the American muscle coupe. And more than 6,000 have made deposits with dealers since orders opened on Monday, months before the limited-edition Challenger SRT8 goes into production.

"This is unprecedented," said Mark Mallie, Challenger Brand Manager - Dodge Marketing. "Customers were actually coming to us and pushing us, so we thought this was a good time to take pre-sale orders."

Orders are still coming in - long before enthusiasts have even seen the car. They'll have to wait until the production Dodge Challenger SRT8 makes its debut at the Chicago Auto Show next February. But there's no surprise about the benchmark performance of the Challenger SRT8. Each is powered by a 6.1-liter HEMI V-8, and features a numbered dash plaque, plus dual "carbon-fiber" hood stripes that harken back to the original Dodge Challenger.

The car is available in black, silver or HEMI orange.

"More than half of the orders are HEMI Orange," Mallie said. "It's been almost 35 years since the last Challenger, and there's a lot of interest. There's a lot of people anxious for it. It's certainly an iconic muscle car."

The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $37,995, including a $675 destination fee. Remember - this is a SRT, delivering top-of-the-line performance, world-class ride and handling, benchmark braking and a race-inspired interior. Pricing on the rest of the Challenger lineup will be announced at a later date.

Since pricing was announced on Nov. 29, Web site traffic to www.Dodge.com has spiked up 23 percent, Mallie said.

The muscle car wars start next spring, when deliveries begin for the Challenger SRT8.

But later this week, muscle car fans will have more to squeal about, when we release some eye candy. Check back here later.

<![CDATA[ Dodge Challenger SRT8 Dealer Pamphlet Showing Off Potential Detail Shots? ]]> So there's what appear to be scans of a Dodge dealer pamphlet for the 2008 Challenger and Challenger SRT8 making its way around the internet. While some of the shots in the scans appear to show off the concept vehicle (the tiny words that say "concept vehicle shown" are the dead giveaway), some of the detail photos appear to show off a non-concept front-end, fuel cap, badging and rims. Although we won't know for sure until the Chicago Auto Show in just a couple of months — what say you? UPDATE: Two members of the media in attendance claim the detail shots we've got below are in fact the real deal — those are of the production version of the Challenger.

<![CDATA[ The Muscle Car Wars Are On! Dodge Reveals Commercial, Challenger SRT8 Pricing To Start At $37,995 ]]>
Oh yeah baby, the Muscle Car Wars (patent pending) are totally on now and Dodge is showing it — revealing both a new commercial for the new muscle car that declares simply "It's On!" and then by dropping a pricing of $37,995 on the limited-edition, top of the line and 6.1-liter Hemi-powered 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8. The new pony car from the brand with the horns will come in three colors, black, silver or Hemi orange and they'll begin taking orders on the new Hemi hotness starting December 3rd. Now that would make a "December to Remember." We're totally declaring Monday a Jalopnik muscle car holiday. <![CDATA[ 2008 Dodge Challenger Caught In Vegas At Dealer, Media Preview ]]> So the three-headed dog that runs "The New Chrysler" showed off their new muscle car to their wide world of dealers and a select group of media in Vegas last week. But it wasn't the concept car 2008 Dodge Challenger we've been seeing since it's first reveal at last year's Detroit Auto Show. Instead, they showed off what we're hearing is the production version of the new '08 Dodge Challenger via some secret camera phone shots from either a media person or dealer in attendance at the event. Luckily, as we didn't go, it obviously couldn't have been us who snapped these shots — but fear not, we've got the utmost expectation we'll be getting a call from Chrysler PR blaming us for it. We'll just have to wait for the Chicago Auto Show to see it in person. Full spy report after the jump.

<![CDATA[ Dutch Auto Site Reports Cerberus To Deny Dodge Challenger To Europe? ]]> We didn't mean to have two posts up this morning on the new retro muscle car from Dodge, but after we reported the somewhat old and obvious news that the Challenger would be coming in an SRT model, we're also hearing some rumblings from the Netherlands. Apparently, and this is coming via a Dutch site with a funny sounding name, Europe not only won't be receiving any SRT versions of the Challenger, they won't be receiving any R/T or any base models. On top of the denial of muscle to Europe, they're also reporting the new owners of "The New Chrysler" won't be making very many of the muscle car for the North American market either. At least that's what we're gathering from the following Babelfish-translated quote:

"the dead Challenger do not come to Europe. In the business plan the manufacturer has taken into account purely a limited sale on the American market.

It is for the European liefhebbers of the model hope that new owner Cerberus returns on the decision of previous Chrysler-top and the modern interpretation of dead muscle adapts car for supply on the European market."

While we try to figure out what a "liefhebber" is, you sit and ponder why Cerberus is putting a stranglehold on the number of vehicles sold of an enthusiast-driven product like the Challenger? And what will become of our Muscle Car Wars we've been waiting so patiently for? [autotelegraaf.nl] ]]>

<![CDATA[ Ward's Auto: Chrysler Confirms Challenger SRT8 ]]> While this may be old news for some, we still think it's important to note that as of mid-July, Ward's Auto was claiming the

"Chrysler Group has confirmed that it will build a high-performance version of the Dodge Challenger. It is expected to launch sometime after the 2009-model base car rolls out. The SRT-8 Challenger will be based on the next-generation LX platform, the LY."

But are we sure we believe Ward's — I mean, they do know the first year of the car's going to be a 2008 model year, right? Or do they mean an SRT won't come out until the 2009 model year — the second year of the newly re-born muscle car from the Ram's Horn-y brand? Also by "LY" platform — do they mean "LC" platform? Are they the same? We're so confused. [SEMA eNews]
