Challenger SRT8-Driving "Blonde Bombshell" Revealed As G4TV's Alison Haislip
Remember when we saw that black Dodge Challenger SRT8 making some runs at Irwindale Speedway? Remember the unknown "blonde bombshell" at the wheel last week? Well, it's confirmed — she is a bombshell, and now she's no longer "unknown." Turns out it was Alison Haislip of G4TV doing a bit of test dragging with Chrsylerberus' new Mopar muscle car. Here we get to see her take a stab at a Shelby Mustang that almost loses it into the wall while losing to a girl — well, at least that's what it looks like from the editing. Dodge Challenger Races Honda Civic SI At Drag Strip
Loyal reader Jack found himself at Irwindale Raceway in SoCal yesterday for the run-what-ya-brung night and lookie what was there, a brand new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8. Here we catch a glimpse of the lady driver givin' it to a Honda Civic SI in an 1/8th mile run which sees the new Mopar take it easy all the way to a winning finish. At least that's what we hope we're seeing. If a Challenger doesn't obliterate an SI at the strip something is very wrong. We're still wondering who the blonde bombshell behind the wheel was. Anyone out there know? Also, does the Challenger pictured here have the legendary drag package we've heard about for almost a year now?[Youtube via Jack]

What better way to kick off the sales of your new muscle car, the last relevant piece of new product you're going to introduce for a while, than to invite a couple of guys who are best known for selling motorcycles. Paul, Sr. and Paul, Jr. of American Chopper fame were on hand to show off the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8. And what did we learn that you may not have learned from any of the sixteen or seventeen Challenger posts that already ran today? Dodge was smart enough to low-ball the 0-60 mph in the initial press release, as the actual car gets a more respectable 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds with a top speed of 170 mph and a quarter-mile in the 13's. There is also video of it jumping, as seen in this image of questionable authenticity, but it only goes about 8 inches off the ground. Chicago Auto Show: Chrysler PR Team Learns Photoshop, Makes Challenger Fly
Employing the same skill as a 12-year-old grafting his head on Eli Manning's body, Chrysler's media team made the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 fly. There are so many problems with this 6th grade photochop that it would occupy us for the rest of the day trying to make fun of them and we couldn't bring you live pictures of the Ford Transit Connect. We've numbered the seven most obvious errors, bad clones and just outright injustices. You identify them and hopefully add some more. UPDATE: While we don't mean to imply the Challenger's not jumping through the air with the greatest of ease — the p-shop-job done to the car we think would make anyone doubt the veracity. But Chyrsler PR claims it happened and we'll even see video to prove it in a short while. [Source: Chrysler]

2008 Dodge Challenger Makes A Cameo In New Chrysler Ad... Sort Of
The animated "A New Day" spot is out from Chrysler, and while the commercial isn't about a homicidal pre-teen henchman (though we weren't that far off), there is a cameo by the 2008 Dodge Challenger. We don't exactly need to go into the details of how this version doesn't match up with the production version so we'll just say there are a few differences. Make sure to pay extra attention at the end or you might just miss the appearance.

There are a couple of interesting things going on here. First, there don't appear to be any racing stripes, which could lead you to think these aren't SRT8's, though we think they are. 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, Now With A Real Rear End
Thanks to the kind folks over at Autoweek — and via the folks at the Line on the Inside over at Edmunds — we can now add an official press shot of the 2008 Dodge Challenger to our growing collection from the broken embargo. The main difference between concept and reality is the loss of the LED rear lights. The tips on the twin exhausts also become single rectangles, there's some added detail in the bumper, the reverse lights are a nifty single, central unit and the rear spoiler is all black. You can compare and contrast the changes in the galleries below. Don't forget, we'll be bringing you live coverage from the Challenger's official unveiling from the Chicago Auto Show next week.

First 2009 Dodge Challenger Interior Photo
Yup, more evidence that the Muscle Car Wars are on! After we showed you that single shot of the new 2010 Ford Mustang interior and after we ran the two covers Car & Driver saw slip out way too early, we happened upon the above shot of the interior for the 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T on a few of the forums all about the new muscle car from the Ram-headed brand. So what do we see? (It first showed up on ChallengerTalk.) Well — we see a lot of standard instrument panels, radio units and HVAC controls. In an editorial written in the wake of the silliness that was Chrysler's embargo strategy on the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 reveal for the Chicago Auto Show, Dutch Mandel, the hard-charging editor of AutoWeek, echoes our pleas from last week. Quick summary: The auto industry needs to let the embargoes go and bring the "show" back to auto shows. We welcome Dutch & Co. to the trenches — they've got themselves a seat here next to us. Heck, we've even got room for guys like Marty Padgett over at The Car Connection. We're still waiting for others with the necessary intestinal fortitude to join the fight — but we think Motor Trend may not have the thick skin we once thought they had. Pity. [AutoWeek]

The buff boys over at the buff book named Car und Driver appear to be needing some crucial reader input on their April issue. They, or a duly-sworn representative, have taken it upon themselves to send out some versions of their cover to a small clinic group of readers to determine which shots should get the limelight of being an actual C&D cover. What's really funny to us is we remember overhearing a conversation involving Editor-in-Chief Csaba Csere at Narita Airport in the Northwest Worldclub waiting for our flight back from the Tokyo Auto Show. Csaba was loudly proclaiming how his publication is very careful with embargoed information, never — ever — letting outsiders have access to covers. We also remember hearing him say that other outlets (in the case being talked about, it was Motor Trend's accidental embargo breach on the Nissan GT-R) need to be more careful with covers that reveal sensitive information — and that Car & Driver doesn't ever run clinics or provide PR teams with covers that include embargoed information. Yes, well, we're assuming Csaba's going to have a little bit of egg on his face this morning. Because as you can see, there's two possible covers of Car & Driver's April issue — one above and one below the fold, each revealing the same thing — the new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 in it's full glory, and a 425 HP rating — well before the official unveil of the new muscle car at the Chicago Auto Show in two weeks. Oh yes, and the new Pontiac G8 GT will have a HP rating of 362. One more pic below the jump and of course, our gallery of spy photos below. UPDATE: AutoWeek's gone ahead and jimmied the door on the embargo, busting it even further open with some more embargoed press shots on the new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 — so we're going ahead and dropping the whole salvo as well in the gallery below.

As expected, the invoice shows factory pricing (with MyGig!) at just over $40,000. Full dealer markup doesn't look to be too tough on the wallet — just less than $2,000 more — bringing the total price up to $41,985.
