Toyota VP And Rainforest Action Network Scuffle After Introduction Of 2008 Sequoia

Apparently there was more going on at the reveal of the new 14 MPG 2008 Toyota Sequoia than just the reveal of an uber-humongous SUV based on the new bigger n' beefier Tundra pickup. We didn't find out until after we left LA-LA-land, but the folks from the Rainforest Action Network (RAN) snuck into the reveal to ask Bob Carter, vice president and general manager of Toyota's US division a few questions about why the automaker all about advertising green is one of the automakers suing to stop California from restricting vehicular CO2 emissions. According to Rick Popely from the Chicago Tribune, Carter, noting
"the man's media badge identified him as Dave Schembri, head of Mercedes-Benz's Smart division...knocked the video camera from the man's hands, and security guards separated the two."
Toyota spokesperson Irv Miller said later in response to the incident: ""It's probably on YouTube now. That's freedom of speech..." Yes, Irv — and as the above video proves — you're right on both counts. By the way, the best part of the video isn't the altercation — it's Carter's stunned reaction to the question asked. LA Auto Show: Hyundai RWD Coupe

UPDATE: First shots are live! Brian Lam and I are here on the floor of the LA Convention Center waiting for the Hyundai Genesis Coupe to...oh there it goes. Once my eyes adjusted to the metal-flake, nuclear-sunrise orange initial impressions were RSX headlights on a Lexus IS wedge. Of course, the special thing is that Hyundai promises the coupe to be the cheapest 300HP RWD sports car ever, not just out of Seoul — we'll see if it'll beat a Mustang in pricing. The Viper-esque hood vents and carbon fiber bits won't make it to final for costs obviously, but the thought is certainly nice. The shapely triangle window, fifth relative of custom van glass, is staying.

Press release after the jump and we'll have video up shortly. More »

LA Auto Show: US-Spec Nissan GT-R Revealed Live

Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn just revealed the US-Spec version of Godzilla — the all-new Nissan GT-R here at the LA Auto Show. Ghosn claims that "this car could only be built with both our heads and our hearts." Apparently he forgot to add they needed their balls as the speedy super car's supposedly rated at 480 horses under the hood from the 3.8-liter twin turboed V6 engine. Also, Brian Lam says the seats are made for skinny Asian kids like him. He also says I'm a fit Midwestern boy and should leave any vehicle reviews of Godzirra to him and his Gizmodo nerdry. What say you fair Jalopnik readers?

LA Auto Show: Go, Go, Go Ghosn!

Nissan CEO Carlos "The Jackal" Ghosn is in the process of revealing the new Nissan GT-R in a tourgasm of force. Or is it a tour of forcegasm? Whatever it is — it's friggin' epic. Actually, I think Brian Lam sitting right here next to me just had a GTRgasm. Wait, yes, he's soaking wet. The US-Spec GT-R shots will be up momentarily — please stand by.

LA Auto Show: Lincoln MKS Revealed Live

We showed the press shots of the new 2009 Lincoln MKS late last night — and now here it is — the car Ford CEO Alan Mulally just called the "Caddy-killer" has just been revealed live here at the LA Auto Show. Look at that boldly designed "double winged split grille" signifying the "new design language of the Lincoln brand" as explained to the press folks by Mark "the Mullet" Fields and Peter "Hi I'm Dave" Horbury. It's a look we're affectionately calling the "Horbury hangnail." Next look at that boldly stolen-from-the-new-CTS rear end. Yup, that's most certainly — a something. Full press release on this Sangria-colored Lincoln with "reclaimed sandlewood" interior after the jump. Oh, and did we mention it comes with Sync and it'll start with $37,985 with the 3.7-liter V6 and the 6-speed auto tranny — with pricing topping out at just under $50K? We didn't think so.

LA Auto Show Preview: Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro

No, wait — it's not Shanghai redux, it's actually something new. Audi's re-revealing the Cross quattro concept car from the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this year except they've done something "dramatic." That's right — they've dropped the top to now reveal it as the Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro concept car. Can anyone say Chevy Camaro drop-top? Also — we feel like we're just being teased for today's main event — the reveal of the new Audi Q5. Well, all the new deets on the convertible concept below the jump in the press release.
