    It's still better looking than the Panamera, but geez 50 large? I don't think so. Also that Mercedes slushbox is slow shifting and way expensive to replace.

    I like Porsches and the 928 is a rarer find, but for $50,000 I don't think there's any reason to get nostalgic just yet for something that is not that collectible, and not that great in terms of performance or reliability compared to what you can buy brand-new off the lot right now. Any number of foreign and domestic sports cars come in well under that price for the same performance. Heck, even a 1 year old Cayman S will set you back less than 50 large.

    I'd value it at closer to $30-$35k. Still a lot of money, but the latest of the 928s are quite rare, and still command a fairly high price.


    It might be hard to justify for non Porschephiles, since it looks roughly like the earlier 928s that can be had for sub $5k prices in decent condition.


    It's a fine car, and I'd love to have it. I just wouldn't spend the $30k that it's worth, let alone $50k.

    I'd save 20 G's and look for a old well maintained 6 series BMW instead. And actually be able to drive it and get it repaired under most circumstances.


    I'm going with crack pipe. Cool cars but I can't play at that level. Hell I'd rather find a beater 911 or something. I require (relative) simplicity.

    A guy I used to work with bought one of these at an auction for $3500. I told him he paid too much, and he would regret it. He said "Dude! It's a Porsche, think of all the p*ssy I'm gonna get!" I said "The chicks ain't gonna help you push it when it dies for no apparent reason, and they aren't gonna get back in when it mysteriously restarts 2 minutes later as if nothing was ever wrong" About a month later (after he managed to unload it for $2500 with a story about how his GF didn't like the seats and wanted it gone NOW), he asked me how I knew. I told him it was a lucky guess.

    @petersterncan: Well, that's the thing. He didn't have a girlfriend (I suspect he may even have been a virgin at that point). He invented her as a means of explaining to the mark why he was letting such a fantastic car go for so little money.

    Man, I did all my growing up in and around DC. 30,000 miles in DC is like 480,000 miles anywhere else, or about 20,000 miles in NYC.


    A better price would be about $18,988 and include a big, big box full of tools and a letter of apology for being such a dumbass on the original asking sticker.
