1988 Porsche 924 S |

These are actually the most common Porsches around here, though there's an utterly elusive 914 running around, and a once-spotted 928 that rolled by a week or so ago.

I think one of these would make a great Q-ship, simply insert 968 or 944S2 motor and make the Porsche guys uncomfortable at the track. My preference would be to insert one of the General's LSx engines and make everyone uncomfortable.

BTW that's not saying a whole lot.
This car suffered horribly from the Porsche repair costs issue. I believe timing belts ran $3,500 to $4,000.

This car looks so--reasonable compared to the shiny bells, whistles, ground effects, bulges, wings, and flashy colors that were to come. From the front it almost looks like an old RX from some angles.
Put this in a museum as an example of at least one thing from the 80s that wasn't excessive and over the top.

They didn't look as nice as the other Porsches, but they certainly held their own on the performance end...and even if they spent $30k to build, that's still a lot cheaper than a new 911.

I love 944's, and I understand the 924, but I'd take a nice CRX over it any day. Still a nice find. There's a white S in my hood that looks great, I'm just not sold on the model.

Yes, it's Al Navarro hyperbole day.

I know it's a good car, a friend in the Se7ens community who is a HPD instructor got an S this year.
I lumped it in for hyperbole, mostly. And I didn't know they added the LSD option. But mostly because I feel that most of the people who buy these things AREN'T my Caterham-owning, driving-instructor friend. They buy them for reasons that have nothing to do with performance.
Se7ens uber alles.

In my neck on NJ, I see plenty of people at the wheel who are happy they could finally get that Boxtser with a hardtop!
Of course, I'm totally vehicular profiling here...

"neck of"
SHEESH.

I will someday own a 944, and I think the only reason I like the 924 at all is that it reminds me of the car that it begat.

Also very cool is a Shooting Brake version of the 924 Carrera GT:

I don't know which one I'd have liked better. The Porsche's a Porsche, but the Lexus had much more power and was, I bet, much more comfortable. And that's back when the SC was basically a Supra, so I'm sure it handled reasonably well...
I'd take the Lexus, actually. Over a Porsche.
Damn.

So the question is: this or a '89 Zenki 240SX?
