I saw one with quite a few more miles on it (still under 10k) go for $135k. Assuming it is as claimed then it's not out of line, so technically "nice price", but anyone paying that kind of scratch for anything based off a Grand National needs their head examined. They're cool cars but you can buy cooler for that much.

No, I've never driven one. What does that have to do with you calling people "idiot" for doing as they please with their own property?

@Turbo Driver: It's a late-malaise era Buick. Get over it. I don't see why you've got your panties in a bunch over what people who bought and paid for a car (yes, I said it, it's just a car) do with it. It's not like it's any of your business. I suppose you'd organize a lynch mob if I decided to take my one of 2,937 built numbers-matching 1963 Rambler American 440 Sedan, and drop a Ford 427 with a ZF 5-speed transaxle where the trunk and back seat currently reside? No probably not, because it isn't one of your precious Buicks. Why don't you go whine about it on one of your fanboy forums, so other people will share your righteous indignation that someone actually dares to do whatever they please with something that they own.

@mike- I have an '82 Turbo 500 Honda m/c still on MSO. Never been 'titled' as yet. Sat on dealer floor on display for 12 years b4 I picked it up in '94; had 13 miles on it.

@Turbo Driver: Nice but not a Kawi XN85 which was the rarest of the turbo factory cycles.

That said- alot of the early '80s Turbo 500s and also the CBX1000 6 cylinder cycles were donated to vocational or technical schools when the motorcycle glut happened in the early '80s. Honda probably got a write off for the donations. My father saw one of the fairinged CBX Sixes's in a vocational school shop around 1998-99 with still 0 miles on it. I saw a few pop up in the early 2000's as schools probably sold them off while shutting down programs, etc...

Hold on to yours for it will only go up in value.

Somehow I think the average milage of all 500-odd GNXs is in the sub 20k mile range. You see lots of sub 10k mile examples for sale, and a realitively high percentage of "new" sub 500 mile examples. A real shame really, they should be driven.

Obvious Crack Pipe!

You can't pay too much, but you CAN pay too early. In this case, about two decades (give or take, courtesy of our lovely economy).

Always remember, low mileage cars incur the same fiscal challenges as high mileage cars: actually driving it requires reconditioning. Otherwise, it's just a paperweight you ogle.

@DSLPWR: Most "perfectly preserved" cars are not perfectly preserved. An article years ago in Cars & Parts discussed at length all the problems with super low-mileage originals. Their prescription for "preserving" a car was to take it out once a month for a hour: about 10 miles in town to acquaint all the moving parts to one another again, then about 40 miles at highway speeds to evaporate all the moisture out of the drivetrain cavities. Of course, that adds up to 600 miles a year. Which means a "perfectly preserved" '57 Chevy would have over 30,000 miles on it.

@west-coaster- there's not a lot of them to BE found- only 547, period. Take away the one that HAVE been driven (and there are few that were owned by idiots) and then take away those that were modified/raced GNX's (owned by uber-idiots) you are left with probably fewer than 500. I know of at least 3 totaled.

Natural selection process...

@Turbo Driver: I get that you are a bit of a GN/GNX fanboy, but it would be just as easy to refer to people who buy cars and never drive them in hopes of making an obscene profit as "idiots" as it is to use that term for people who buy cars to DRIVE (IE their intended purpose).

@Mike the Dog: Well, let's be fair. There's a difference between "bought it to drive it" and "drove it like an idiot." I'll be honest - the GNX would have been too much car for me, so if I had driven it, I'd have probably driven it like an idiot (and there'd have been 4 totaled, rather than 3).

@uncle Bo- you are very correct. BUT, I go back to the question of WHO has owned this #415 previously?

Being Immke, it is likely that a celeb may have indeed had it. Otherwise, like you, I can't see where the premium is coming from. I know Immke had one of these in his collection; not sure if this is the number tho..

@Turbo Driver: "Untitled" generally means that no-one has owned it, and that it has never been out of the dealer network. I'm pretty sure dealers are legally required to title cars when they are sold to non-dealers.

Seeing that GNX #433 with 169 miles no sale'd at $82K, I'd say this one is a little overpriced at $145K.

This one is GNX #415, never been titled, sold on an MSO, I imagine, so that would make the buyer the first official owner. That's worth something to a collector but $60K premium? Mmmmmm.... dunno about that.

I can find low mile GN's all day for $20-30K. A GNX is worth 2X that but not a lot more unless it's perfect.

GNX #475 with 267 miles will be sold at B-J on Sunday, lot 1562. #475 has been for sale several times and bid up to about $80K on ebay. Since B-J is no reserve, this sale will set the current market. #475 isn't show ready but if I could get it for $60-70K, I'd rather have it than Immke's #415 at $145K.

Nice Price!

This is the Jalopnik Fantasy Garage; GM owned, Barrett-Jackson auctioned GNX. This is not a 'regular' GNX, this is a very special model. It falls very easily into 'collector' status and thusly gains a higher price tag.

I wouldn't pay it, but someone will.
