I thought anything post '84 was FWD for that Corolla. My 84 coupe was RWD, but the next year I'm pretty sure was FWD.

Nice looking car but with FWD where's the fun?

(Now I did see a late '80s Supra that wasn't blinged or stickered up recently, straight six and RWD!)

@ursa: You could get a Corolla with front- or rear-wheel drive in the mid-80s. After seeing how well they do in LeMons races, I'm going to say the FX16 (FWD) is my favorite.

You guys are lucky! 'Round these parts in this little farming hick community, it doesn't matter if its parked on the street, in a carport or behind a privacy fence out of sight. If a vehicle is parked ANYWHERE outside and hasn't moved for 30 days, or has a flat, or an expired plate, or a broken window, or no insurance, or looks like it dont run, or more than ten years old, or not street legal (like a race car), or someone important bitches its gonna be GONE like shit thru a goose to impound and held for ransome. They dont even have to tell you that they are taking your vehicle, they just take it. Government goons will knock your fence down if your gate is locked then fine you for the pleasure.

Suppose one should just be thankful and feel lucky and blessed that they are still kind enough to let one keep non-running, non-licensed, non-insured and/or non-street legal vehicles inside an enclosed garage or structure.

@Ash440: Sounds like a ripe opportunity to put up a security camera and nail their asses. There is no way it is legal for them to trespass on your property to take your property without due process.

@Ash225/6: I hate to be a prick in this conversation, but that is THE reason why zoning laws were created.

There is no way in hell I would want a house next door to me with peeling paint, with a rotting front porch, or a mobile home, or a junked car in the front of it.

Now, if you want to move said car in the back yard, behind a fence, or behind the garage, and covered, that would be fine with me.

If your house burns down, will you live in a station wagon on the front yard and use the back yard for a latrine? (happened in our town). Can you spray paint obscenities across the front of your house in 10 foot tall letters?

There's a line somewhere; the question is finding it and justifying it with legitimate reasons.

@Ash225/6: I tend to fall a bit more on the libertarian side of this argument, but still, at some point what you do to your property does affect mine.

I had an argument with a lady last year- she lives next door to me. She came over one night all angry that my ants (yes, you read that right) were a danger to her children. She claimed they were living in my pine trees and if I didn't cut them down, she'd get her "friend" in the county to force me to. I was incredulous, and basically nicely told her to piss off.

A few months later I caught her burning old carpet in her backyard. Yeah, she's a piece of work.

If you're going to have a bunch of decrepit vehicles and trash in your yard, you move to "the country." Like my cousins, for instance. They have at least three F-150s buried up to their axles on their property and at least two Chevy Silverados in a similar state. Then there's the Ford Tempo they buried in the ground because it was somehow full of snakes. Then there are some other cars just lying around, like a '70s era Grand Prix and some others that I can 't remember. Oh yeah, and the Rolls Royce limousine (I think it's either a Phantom V or VI) stuck in their front yard (no joke).

@tomlewis: We have anti-blight laws in the town I live in. And it's not like I's a neat freak anyway. I have in the backyard: A boat on a trailer, a utility trailer, my camper, and the Corvair I'm getting ready for LeMons, along with my other boat in the garage. However, the lawn is neatly trimmed, weeds are kept under control, and when the paint gets too thin or starts flaking off the house or garage, time to take care of it. All the other stuff is hidden under covers, of behind the garage so that it's not an eyesore.

I'm also very lucky that I don't live in a deed restricted neighborhood that seems to be popular in Connecticut. Deed restrictions like no trucks in the driveway, no trailers, no campers, and no boats in the yard, and all the yard work tidy neat and well kept. Ugh.

@UDMan: Ah yes, the historic neighbourhood problem. My lease states that no nonrunning vehicles are allowed on the street or in driveways (not that I have one). I'm going to have to start seriously niceing up to my parents to let me use their garage for my LeMons car next year...

@CaveTroll: That's all fine until the county comes and hauls your shit off as happened to me. Being out in the boonies doesn't save you either. I am two miles from the county road behind two locked private gates, you can't see my stuff until you're a 1/4 mile from the house and my nearest neighbor is over a mile away. The county showed up one day with an aerial photo of my property and told me I had 60 days to clean it up. When I failed to meet their criteria at the deadline, they showed up to "help" me and proceeded to haul off everything, including a 40ft pipe and sheet metal storage building. My biggest mistake was doing this in California and being too broke to fight them.

Too bad he's like 3500 miles away, the owner of that Toyota could park it in my yard as long as he wanted. (Not that I'm a fan of Yotas, but it's the principle of the thing). I've got a tarp and some bungees he could use, too.
