And The 24 Hours Of LeMons South Winner Is... The Dorifto Dogs BMW 325e! |

Hats off to the Jetta, Saab and all the other teams that raced us hard but clean. I have lots of respect for drivers who want to win, but aren't willing to punt you to do so.

I have video for ALL of Sunday, but it's a 16GB file that needs to be edited and download off the camera. I will share as sonn as possible though.

Recommendation:
To keep lemons, lemons, I think they should give all cars that are fast to begin with a 100 lap entry penality to enocourage more fun stuff. All 325i and faster models, all miatas, all CRX/Integras and Foxstangs plus whatever I missed... give starting lap bonus to the odd stuff....
BTW, how was that Jetta so stinking fast? VR6? $500 my A%^
Thoughts?

The Jetta was so fast because the drivers were just that good; I don't think the car was cheating any worse average.

We never put more than 7 gallons in the car and nobody drove much over 2 hours. I filled the tank on the last stop and put in 6 1/2 gallons. The car was on empty and cutting out, but we made it!
We weren't the fastest car. Don't break and stay out of the penalty area!
The last driver of the 95 car was awsome! We would have been out of gas in 8 minutes, but if the race had been 8 minutes more he would have caught us anyway.

Balls deep to just bring a 320i to the track with the k-tronic on it.

We printed out the web page and brought it with us.
The LeMons Supreme Court is ever vigilant!

"Is it safe for us BMW fanboys to come out of the closet now? No? OK, maybe next time."
Shuts door just before a barrage of rotten tomatoes and motor oil come hurling in his direction.

it's only fitting i post it here, with an E30 winning LeMons South. :)

Shouldn't be too hard to get it down close enough to $500 for the judges to let it by penalty free with a good story.

Besides even if you aren't worried about BS inspection, $100 is still $100. That's a bottle of Glenmorangie single malt old enough to f*ck (18 years).
There are so many rabid MG enthusiasts out there selling off $100 in parts should be no problem...

The only significant electrical problem we've ever had came from accidentally chopping off the ABS sensor when we were trying to save weight.

And remember kids, this is a 325*E*. That's the economy motor with 127hp and a 5000rpm redline ;)

So, just like WWII, we win one and they win one.

We need moar diversity and ridiculously effluent cars.

Seriously, this is supposed to be fun. And my guess is that its more fun to drive a BMW around the track than some shitted out Escort. Although, I see the appeal of both, some prefer to have fun while driving the best they can get away with and some prefer to drive the worst thing they can think of. Different strokes.

I believe you when you say the X5 is a performer. I drove a Cayenne S once, and it was one hell of a performer. That said, driving it didn't compel me to refrain from hating them both on principle: if you want something practical and engaging to drive, buy a 5er touring. If you need ground clearance, buy a damn Land Rover.

Plus, being a 325e it proves once again that the fastest car isn't necessarily the one to win. Slow, steady and reliable will win the race over flashy and broken.
Now, I'm thinking for my future imaginary LeMons entry, I will go the way of LeMans and field an Audi diesel. Then I will dominate, except when I don't.
04/05/09
PS: My 7 will take your X5
04/05/09
@jodark: I'm kinda with you.
I don't want LeMons to become a miata Vs e30 semi-spec series and abandon the "holy crap, you're racing a what?" spirit.
But I don't think more rules are going to make the event any more fun.
After all, the teams running ridiculous machinery didn't come there to win they came there to have a good time and hopefully finish.
LeMons certainly hasn't gotten more boring with the addition of better cars.
04/06/09
The X5 is a great truckwagon, sure... but it is to BMW as the Cayenne is to Porsche. It just shouldn't be, but it is, because it makes a profit. That said, it beats the hell out of most truck-based things you could be driving on the road 100% of the time.

I recommend the weight management blend, though.
