@Gaseous Clay: I asked they guy about oil changes. He replied that it was changed annually. This, combined with the short monthly drives, was probably sufficient to keep the seals tight and the condensation out of the oil. Which almost puts to rest the reservations I expressed above.

I voted nice price. Actually, we have no middle ground between crack vs. nice but it's definitely not crack. The really really low mileage makes you wonder why the person ever bought it in the first place but as they say on Craig's List "My loss, you're gane!"
Just another reason ebay has transformed from a streamlined depot of free market capitalism into an unwieldy beast of excess options, choices, confusion, and time consumption, dominated by high-volume, low-service sellers and questionable scammers.
It used to be almost as easy as Craigslist to post. Now it's like filling out a census form.
@Gearhead_42: I'm guessing the American ebayers lack honesty based on the comments so far. Personally i've never had a problem with it,buying or selling,& your money is protceted by paypal if someone does try it on.
I like the car, but for that kind of money, I could find a Gen-3 that I'd like a lot more. It might be "worth" that kind of money now, but not as a car. If you drive it, the value would drop precipitously. So you couldn't drive it, and if you can't drive it, really, what's the point?
Someone's gonna buy it, and it might even go over the BIN price. It's still crackpipe territory. This car is 24 years old, it has 2,500 miles on it. That's just over 100 miles per year. I'm guessing that it was either driven 2,500 miles when new then stored, or has only been used for very short trips. Either all of the rubber and gaskets are bad, or it was never driven long enough to get up to temp, and therefore was never properly broken in. Either way a teardown and rebuild of the motor would be required.
Just read the ad. "Driven monthly around the block for maintenance preservation and to keep the seals tight". That means it was never warmed up to operating temperature. The crankcase (sump?) oil supply is probably quite contaminated with moisture and it wouldn't surprise ma at all to discover that the factory motor oil has broken down, and no longer lubricates properly.

@Mike the Dog: How can something go over the Buy it now price? If the bidding gets that high, someone will just hit the buy it now & the auction is over.
@layabout met the real Santa: I used to sell things on ebay pretty frequently, so I'm not sure if it's changed:
"Buy it Now" was a one-time thing you offered to people BEFORE the item had any bids. Once the first bid shows up, BIN disappears. This would avoid the scenario you describe, so it makes sense.
I always considered BIN as an alternative to a reserve price--"here, let me offer it at auction, but I'll also list a price for the impatient people!" (usually at a price a little higher than I expect)
@The Name's Ash78, Housewares: I sell plenty of crap on ebay & the BIN function remains throughout the auction, usually people only use it when the bidding gets close to the price. When BIN is used the auction is ended & the item is removed as sold. I've been making about £200 a week selling giving up smoking products to make extra cash,so i'm familiar with how it works.
@layabout met the real Santa: the Buy It Now will disappear at some point before the bidding reaches it. Otherwise it wouldn't work, would you pay $15k for something on the BIN if you knew the bidding could never exceed that figure? Probably not, and sellers wouldn't voluntarily cap the amount their item could bring, either. That's what fixed price listings are for.

"Buy It Now gives you the chance to purchase an item immediately, before bidding begins. But you have to act fast. Once someone bids, the Buy It Now option disappears. The listing then proceeds as a regular auction-style listing, with the item going to the highest bidder.
Special situations
In a listing with a Reserve Price, Buy It Now disappears as soon as the reserve price has been met.
In a few categories, the Buy It Now option may continue to be available after the first bid, but only for a limited time."

@Mike the Dog: The BIN option goes once the sellers reserve price is met,but the BIN price can differ from the reserve price. Basically whichever way the conning shits at ebay can get the most cash. Luckily all the crap i sell costs me nothing,so it's all profit.

@Mike the Dog: That's how I remember it...everything I've sold has been in generic collectibles, clothes, and housewares...and BIN has always disappeared after the first bid (which is why you never use BIN with a $0.01 starting price...d'oh!)
But since it apparently differs by category and reserve price, YMMV.
@layabout met the real Santa: Actually, if you follow my link and hit "read more" at the end of the text I quoted, they are tweaking this feature. They have posted the current state of it forum style.

@Mike the Dog: The funny part about all of this is that you started by fact checking my post. I provided proof that it was indeed correct, and you even left-handedly agreed with me, but rather than admit I was correct, you continue to insult me and refer to statements I never disputed in an apparent effort to avoid admitting that my assertion was indeed accurate. Who needs to grow up, now?

@Mike the Dog: Time of the month? I was never proved wrong by you. Once again the BIN function remains until the reserve bid is met, just take a look at the advert the thread is based on,it has 8 bids, yet the reserve hasn't been met & the BIN function remains inplace. The reserve & BIN prices can be the same or they can be set at different amounts. I know this as i always set mine at different prices.
@layabout met the real Santa: Yes, I know that the BIN and reserve can and probably will be different. I never said otherwise. Perhaps you don't remember telling me "@Mike the Dog: How can something go over the Buy it now price? If the bidding gets that high, someone will just hit the buy it now & the auction is over."? I tried to show you the light with excerpts from ebay's FAQ, but you'd rather bring up irrelevant facts and hurl insults than acknowledge that you might have mis-spoken. You even went on to acknowledge that the BIN does indeed disappear , yet you claim you were right the whole time. Whatever.

@Mike the Dog: To anyone with common sense they are not going to bid over the buy it now, why pay more than you have to? The facts you shown just backed up what i already stated. I believe you started with the sarcastic remarks which were uncalled for & trying to provoke. I could make a remark at the fact you finished your last comment by saying "whatever", not generally the most mature way of dealing with things. I'd rather just drop it,as i really don't see the point in wasting my time on this, i'm here due to my interest in cars, not this.

@layabout met the real Santa: I thought you wanted to drop it? Since you still want to play, here's some excerpts from the thread to refresh your memory.
1) "I sell plenty of crap on ebay & the BIN function remains throughout the auction, usually people only use it when the bidding gets close to the price." Not true, as this FAQ link shows. [pages.ebay.com] Also, the "crap" you sell is not on ebay Motors as far as I can tell, and the rules are different for different categories (which you would have realized had you read the FAQ).
2) "The facts you shown just backed up what i already stated" Your statement was "How can something go over the Buy it now price? If the bidding gets that high, someone will just hit the buy it now & the auction is over." The link in item 1 pretty much puts this theory to rest, unless someone sees the BIN before it disappears and doesn't act, but if they want the item they'll still have to pay the bid price.
3) "Like i said, the reserve can differ from the BIN,take a look at the RX7 advert,8 bids & the BIN function is still active. I know how it works thanks." This is utterly irrelevant. I NEVER asserted that the BIN and the reserve had to be the same, nor did I dispute this, as it was an obvious misdirection. This was also the first snarky, provocative post in this thread.
4) "I believe you started with the sarcastic remarks which were uncalled for & trying to provoke." See item 3.
5) "i'm here due to my interest in cars, not this." If that's true, why nitpick me on something you don't care about?
6) "Time of the month?" And you call me childish?
I tire of this game, please just leave me alone from now on.

@The Name's Ash78, Housewares: You can still BIN once bids start. That's how we got the Roadmaster Wagon. There were a few more bids coming in so we pushed the button. But I'm no eBay expert.
@layabout met the real Santa: You started this, not me. I was prepared to completely ignore your existence after the last time I helped you make an ass of yourself, but you chose to initiate round two. If your feelings are hurt you have nobody to blame but yourself. That "threat" (or whatever it was) was pretty weak. As I said, please leave me alone now. Since you started it, it's up to you to drop it (like you said you were going to some time ago).

The price is a little high, but certainly not crackpipe, i have no doubt there will be a buyer for this car,if the next owner keeps it as well maintained as the current owner it could even go up in value. Good looking car in fine condition.
