While this Daytona is pretty rad (How's that for an 80's cliche?) I really liked the Chrysler stablemate, the Laser. An old girlfriend of mine owned a Laser, finished in that bright orangy red (Similar to Mars Red that VW's used to be painted in), Pleather interior, 5 Speed, and T-Top roof. That roarty turbo sounded fantastic, but the ride was anything but comfortable. Still, the picture of this car make me all nostalgic for the Chrysler Coupes, and the good times in that car.

Would I buy this one? Not on your life. A funny thing about looking back into your past. You fondly remember the good times, while trying to block out all the bad times. Sometimes it works, like looking at the Daytona picture. But after a while, you remember why you moved on...

I actually want that car. Not $25k want, but want nonetheless. There are other cars of the era that I would rather have, but it is still pretty sweet.

The biggest problem that I see is that even if we can suspend disbelief and agree that it's worth $25k right now, you couldn't drive it. It would depreciate faster than a new car, if you ever drove it.

If we can pretend that it's worth $25k, with 2k miles, the value would half by the time it hit 10k miles. If the seals would hold up long enough to see 50k miles, it's down into typical "low mileage" value, and you'd be hard-pressed to get $6500 out of it. If you could get it to 100k miles, you're down into $3k or so in great condition, but let's be honest, if you drove it for 100k miles, it wouldn't look like that any more, and would be closer to $1500, with a better than average chance at being worth a LeMons-friendly $500.

It's probably a fair bet that it is the most valuable 1984 Daytona Turbo out there, but that doesn't say much.

Anyone who thinks it's worth $25k is smoking something, no doubt.

Crack Pipe! This isn't even the IROC or Shelby version. It MIGHT be worth 1/2 the price if it was one of those.

Send the first picture to PhotoshopDisasters.com, on account of the completely flat grey undercarriage.

But my two favorite things about it are:

The huge gap on the rub/trim strip between the door and the fender. Couldn't omit that little piece behind the wheel well, but couldn't get it on there gracefully either.

The second thing is, look closely at the silver bits. Looks like the red car is actually sitting on top of an identical silver one.

Holy cow! I can almost hear my Built to Spill and Sunny Day Real Estate mix tapes playing as I cruise around hot-boxing the hell out of this thing. Ahhh... high school.

is it sad I still occasionally roll around and hotbox my car while listening to Sunny Day Real Estate... in 2008?

$25,000 will buy you a brand new Caliber SRT-4 - so until this seller starts offering employee pricing and massive rebates, crack pipe (or maybe the more appropriately 80's massive pile of blow).

way too much money, of course, but I think it allows for a fair case to be made that dodge actually made nice cars in the 80's.

As far as the Daytona, I like '80s FWD Mopes and this one appears to be in awesome shape, but 25 grand? Huffing Aquanet fer sher.

There is a dealer near here that stashed a few cars like this away when new and tried to sell them a while back... Low, low miles and crack-pipe pricing. I think one of them matched this car's description. I wonder if this one just changed hands. There was also a GLHS and a Shelby Charger.

Nice car, but still crack pipe, no doubt.

If the $25k price included the ability to send this car back to 1984, where the then 18 year old Scroggzilla could use it to troll for honeys, then.........wait, what am I saying?......it's a turbo K-car and even with it's War Games inspired dash, it STILL wouldn't have got my nerdy ass layed back in the day........(sigh)....crack.

That's right, from the ad: "pick something can't debased by stupidity, short-term thinking and outright theft!"

If I had a nickel for every Daytona owner who espoused these qualities I, too, could re-enter Malaisey Chrysler world in high style with enough left over for a Omni GLH, a sweet CSX, and a gently-used TC by Maserati.
