    Bummer.

I was brought home from the hospital in a 70s Corolla wagon.

Brown, with fake wood siding, iirc.

To continue my minor threadjack from last week's MB post, the missus and I were discussing how to make Jalopytown'™ a reality.

Anyone know the approximate fixed monthly costs (rent, utilities, etc) for ~2 bay autoshop with a decent sized lot?

I live in New Hampshire. There are exactly three of these left, and none of them ever leave their garages.

    Nice Price.

Just to show how much of a crack-pipe this is, a friend of mine owns one of two '71 'Rollas prepped for track racing in Canada. It was set up for competition by Toyota Canada and then made streetable after being retired from the track. It has 16,000 original kms on it, and he paid 8500 for it.

I could pick up the mintest 510 in the world for that, or MAYBE squeeze into a nice (but imperfect) 240Z.

If it were a Mk1 Celica....maybe. Corolla? Hey, I don't think so. Pipe me.

Almost a nice price. These are cool cars, but it's no 1st-gen Celica.

SR5 denotes a 5-speed manual transmission. Did this actually have a 5-spd? It certainly didn't have the twin-cam motor that was available on the JDM. Not a bad vintage J-style project, but way too much coin for an incomplete.

It's cool. I'd drive it. I wouldn't spend that kind of money on it. I have a hard time picturing the person who would spend that kind of money on it, but maybe I'm wrong.

For now, crack pipe. Some Corolla fanboy may well prove me wrong, but that just seems like too much money for that car.

    Heh, "Corolla fanboy"

@smalleyxb122: Oddly enough, a good friend of mine actually is a Corolla fanboy. He's owned three or four different generations of them that I know of.

    Crackpipe.

If it were an almost brand-new, climate-controlled storage example with less than 5000 miles, then maybe.

But no shell of a car is worth that much money.

    Booth number 2, please.

I'm sorry, but no used Corolla is worth that much. Not even if it had a solid gold steering wheel.

Nice, but I couldn't part with 13G's for it. I could buy a new one for that and know it'll pass emissions.

Partially completed suits me. Still plenty of scope for chassis reinforcement, carbon-fibre propshafts and SR20DETism.

Screw it. Nice price, and long may my festive cheer and generosity continue.
