You'd need to be using a 55 gallon drum, smoking a beach-ball sized rock to think that's a fair price for an AMX. Yes, it's cheap for a nice muscle car, but no non-Jalops think AMC products are that cool.

AMC nutts do and there are PLENTY of fat pocketed fans.

This is a bit high for the current economic environment, yes, but not Cracky...

Lovely car, but this a big money for a mixed package. On the one hand, it's AMC's best-ever performance car. On the other, it's got strange gray paint, a slushbox, and heavy convenience items.

I'd guess that most people clicking on Booth Number Two didn't read the article first, saw the Nice Price Or Crack Pipe headline, and screamed "crack pipe!"

It's all original, what else do you need?

Im never going to appreciate this car..

I never had a fond inkling for AMC.

I think I have a camera phone shot of one of these.. reminded me of a Eleanor, without the Mustang heritage, the nice paint, the stonking motor, and the length!

But this is a Cali car, and redone to an extreme. I dont see the value for this, specually not at 45g.

Maybe he put 30g into this.. and is just trying to make a buck.
Maybe he put 40g into this.. and is just trying to squeak by.
Maybe he put 45g into this.. and is just trying to show some good nature and fun in this... car.

Or maybe he just took a REALLY long hit, off of that crack pipe.

Either way..
Its a Cali car.
Its been... restored. (Why someone would restore this.. is anyone's guess. Why anyone would spend, REAL money.. on this.. is anyone's guess. I dont see it.)

What I do see..
Is that GIANT CRACK PIPE.

Now.. I think this is only worth up to 10g.
Its just not there.

@Accordforall: You forgot to mention that it's being offered by a "high end" used car dealer. He probably picked it up for 4 grand from someone who had no clue as to its value, put 2 grand more into the paint, and is hoping to make a boatload of cash on it.

As a dyed in the wool AMC fanatic, I gotta vote crack pipe. If it had a 4-speed, fewer comfort options and the original paint, it MIGHT make nice price in my book, but it would have to have an interesting history and very low miles. This ad makes no mention of mileage, and the only pic of the speedo seems engineered to obscure the odo under a reflection, so I'm guessing it's quite high.

@Mike the Dog: Agreed. Even with just the 4-speed, it's a price well within the realm of "normal" for a great-condition AMX, but with the slushbox, that drops the price by about $10k on the open market. It's priced for a manual, not an auto.

I'm torn. It has an "ash receiver" instead of an ash tray, a "Weather Eye" climate system and features a rear speaker! But seriously, that's a sweet ride.

It's not crack. It's pot and lots of Rolling Rock ponies!

I'd go pretty far for a nice, running AMC, and even farther for an AMX or an honest Javelin with the funky speedbump fenders - which this doesn't have - but $45K is just too far.

Why the hell would you even make an automatic an option? I mean, if Grandma's going to drive the car, she probably won't want the 390, right?
