F1 Loves All Its Fans Equally, Except Some More Equally Than Others
The F1 Paddock Club is the seating area where the Formula One uber-rich go to wine, dine, converse and oh yes, watch some cars do something or the other. Although most invitees to this exclusive club have an income level rivaling some small nations, it must be so bothersome to actually attend the races when they could be out on their yacht in the middle of the Mediterranean. The Paddock Club assists them by acting as a shanty of sorts providing the barest of essentials to help them make it through a day roughing it at the track. Renault Kangoo: Room For Fat Americans And Their Donuts
Remember when Renault announced that they'd made a deal with 20th Century Fox to use characters from The Simpsons to shill the Kangoo minivan? Well, here's the result, which has been floating around the Internet for a while but hasn't landed here yet. It's about as entertaining as a French minivan could be; we're especially impressed with Homer's Donut Belt and the "money" he uses to buy a new Kangoo. What's next, Jodie Foster selling Civics?

2009 Renault Laguna Coupe Caught In NYC Filming...Something
Fresh from a movie star's debut at Monaco, the 2009 Renault Laguna Coupe was snapped in New York City during filming of what we can only assume is a commercial for the all-new, all-French two door. Zut Alors! That spunky 240-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 is probably not getting too much of a workout on the streets of Gotham though. And, unless all the words we've read are lying to us, nary a single Laguna coupe, sedan, or wagon will be sold on our shores. Makes perfect sense. But hey, look where they are: in front of the Audi Forum, where Will Arnett chatted us up during the New York Auto Show. (Thanks for the pics, Ryan)

Dacia Sandero Launches In Europe, Offers French Quality At Romanian Cost
For around $12,000 American you could be the proud owner of a Dacia Sandero, the hatchback version of the super cheap Renault Logan. Maybe "proud" isn't the right term, but theoretically you could be an owner. Dacia, Romanian crafter of all things cheap from the Nissan and Renault lineups, is better known around these parts as the folks behind the Dacia Logan Pickup, which is essentially a Cube-amino.More »

52 Highway MPG, Psilocybin Sold Separately: 1984 Renault Encore
The Renault Alliance won the 1983 Motor Trend Car of the Year Award, so buyers might have figured the hatchback version- named the Encore- would combine French build quality with the financial acumen of American Motors to produce one of the finest motor vehicles of all time. Well, unfortunately, the Kenosha-ized Renault 9 didn't live up to expectations, but it did get great gas mileage... at a time when gas was 95 cents a gallon and getting cheaper by the minute.

Ove Andersson, Rally Hero: 1938-2008
Ole Andersson, the Swedish-born racer best known for his Toyota-based European rally teams, died yesterday when his 1957 Volvo crashed during a vintage rally event in South Africa. Mr. Andersson began his racing career as a driver in 1963, and by the early 1970s he was running his own team, racking up plenty of podium time (including the 1975 Safari Rally, which he won at the helm of a Peugeot 504). It's a tough blow for all of us to lose this master of rally hoonage, who piloted such Jalop-approved machines as the Celica, Alpine, and 504. [Reuters, The Guardian]

We've been waiting for the real Laguna Coupe to drop ever since we saw the Renault Laguna concept at Frankfurt last year. Pleasantly, the coupe retains the smooth lines and sharp features of the concept version, only slightly refined for the driving public. Though we're partial to the Laguna GT wagon, this Laguna features the new 240-horspower 3.5-liter V6 mated to a six-speed automatic. We'll take one in diesel with a six-speed manual, thanks. Shopping For An Argentine Rambler? Renault Torino Available In California!
We love weird South American versions of North American cars, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a car with a more complicated family tree than the Renault Torino. Conceived as the result of AMC-Renault cooperation, based on the '65 Rambler American Rogue, with body redesign by Pininfarina and power by Kaiser, the Torino was built in Argentina until 1982. Renault-Nissan And Bajaj Team Up On Tata-Upstaging $2,500 Car
Ratan Tata and his eponymous company sent the automotive world buzzing with news of their $2,500 car, the lilliputian Nano. At the time, we reported that Bajaj Auto, which is partnered with Renault-Nissan, was going to announce a $3,000 car. Turns out the companies have found a way to cut $500 off the price to create a $2,500 competitor. To make this car the three companies are creating a new company with ownership split between Renault (25%), Nissan (25%) and Bajaj Auto (50%). No name on the car other than the codename "ULC" which we can only guess stands for "Uncomfortable, Little and Cheap." The car is to be sold in India in early 2011 as the primary market. Special Edition Nokia-Branded Renault Is Full Of Gadgetry
In a rare case of reverse auto branding adventures, it seems Nokia is getting its branding on with a limited edition Renault Sandero in Brazil. The Renault will be loaded to the gills with a Nokia navigation system as well as a Nokia N95 multimedia cellphone. Nokia already provides the navigation and hands-free systems for equipped Renault cars. This special edition Nokia Renault is limited to 1,000 units and will sell for $27,810. [Reuters via CG]
