I went off to college in the family '70 Custom wagon -- with left/right facing jumpseats in the rear. Needless to say, as a frosh with a big wagon, I was designated driver for late-night diner runs, the airport shuttle, and helping people on moving day.

I'm guessing it has a 289 in it. The bigger engines included a 3 bar emblem on the lower front fender indicating engine size. 390s had red bars and 352s and 351s had blue. Not sure if the 7 Litres had the bars, but they had enough other stuff saying 7 Litre to make it obvious.

Man, here I was listening to Fourth of July by Galaxie 500, and surfed over to check out what the DOTS car would be and lo and behold; it's a fine example of the eponym for that band!

Black plates, '60s gold metal flake epitomizing the expressiveness of the era, and of a size that spoke to the grandiose achievements of the time; civil rights, the moon landing, Sgt. Pepper's Lonley Hearts Club Band . . .

Makes me feel all five-years-old again.

@graverobber- It says Loud Pipes Save Lives: I was unable to respect Galaxie 500 after one of the members was interviewed and mentioned that he'd once worked with the squares as an office temp: "I was subverting the temping industry." I was working as an office temp at the time (this being the early-90s recession) and had no illusions about subverting anything; that "subverting" crap is just a phony-hipster way of pretending The Man don't got you by the short ones.

Notice it's parked in front of the bleeding-eyeballs VW van. I guess it's there to pull the average back toward the center.

I had a buddy in high school who drove a Galaxie 500. That damn thing was frickin huge. It didn't matter who was getting in, it would seat six comfortably. Soccer players, football players, tennis players, whatever. They fit with room to spare.

See, when the big cars went off the road, that's when we had to start putting up with minivans. More Big Sedans!

I can hardly think of anything built between say 1963 and 1969 that is truly ugly.

Obviously there were turkeys, but my point was that the overall % of good vs. bad was higher during that period than any time before or since.
