My dad had one of these when he was in the Army and stationed in Germany. Apprently it always started no matter how cold it got, thanks to the hand crank. His car had numerous GI owners, being sold about every 6-12 months for $200 or so. He sold it to get a Triumph Spitfire.

Our school crossing guard had one of these--only one I ever saw for years. Even a kid could indent any panel on it with his bare hands. Some years later my first car, a used R-10, seemed deluxe by comparison. A little more tin, and less foil.

@SkyKing: I was thinking Mario Bava's Planet of the Vampires meets Dr. Who, but I see what you mean.

    That was seriously fuckin kickass.

Too bad the car itself was so goofy looking.

Hey Hollywood, look what you can do without CGI!

Also, vast props to the slightly eerie soundtrack. Scared the shit out of me.

The ominous chord just as the man appears is a nice touch; all he's missing is a red shirt.

    Whoa.

Was I high on something right there or did I really just see that??

Seriously though, the music makes it kind of creepy...

Fantastic! If only they still would make ads like that instead of the usual "car-driving-on-empty-coastal road" image from above and the voice over "Introducing the....".
