Nice price. Let's see how many mostly original M38a1s you can find with an original hard top.

Still would ask $5000 cash. #1953willysm38a1arcticjeep

Nice Price. It's an ex military vehicle that has a practical application. Plus, it's similar enough to a CJ-5 that parts should be easy to get. The sad thing is that, like a Kaiser M715, these are never cheap to buy. #1953willysm38a1arcticjeep

A military specialty collector item for the price of a top of the line HDTV seems Nice Price. I wouldn't want this Jeep for free but for someone looking to get into military vehicles it is a good value. It's certainly cheaper than buying a GTO or Hemi Cuda on Barrett-Jackson...LOL! #1953willysm38a1arcticjeep

Nice! The top is rare as hen's teeth, but this is not project car hell. Well documented and plentiful parts supply. Mostly still available through NAPA. Stow the roof, add a Fireball V-6 and laugh at all the mouse drivers for the next 20 years. #1953willysm38a1arcticjeep

Nice Price. It's military, and complete. The top adds value, they're rare as hell. Easy to remove, too, just unbolt it and get someone to help you lift it off.

A collector would buy this, restore it to o.d. green, get all the military bits and pieces for it and it would be worth ten grand. This really isn't a bad price.

I'd love to have it. I could get it on the road no problem, these are stone axe simple. I'd drive it every day, around town and out in the desert, which is it's natural setting. Paint zebra stripes on it, what the hell. Gimme. #1953willysm38a1arcticjeep

Crack pipe. A more iconic CJ2A with a 12V conversion in good condition can be had for around $6,000.

The round fenders are cool, too, but you might as well get a CJ5 and CJ7 and enjoy a little more refinement.

It's got the basics, its mission is simple, and all the fluff is left off.

If it were running in the picture, I'd call it Nice Price. It's still NP, but a little chancy. It has no special history aside from the cold weather package. It's over 50yo and showing early signs of tinworm on that rare top. It's gonna need some love.

Despite the fact that I would never pay that much for this Jeep, there are a bunch of people who would; so nice price.

That said, Jeeps of this vintage are so much less fun than you'd think. They're NO FUN on paved roads, and while they make great farm vehicles, why wouldn't you get something that could do both? #1953willysm38a1arcticjeep

When I was a kid, there were always bogus advertisements in the back of Popular Mechanics and car magazines claiming to hold the key to buying surplus military Jeeps for $400 at auction. Not that the ads were genuine, but I still can't help but to think that a non-running, mystery condition, once-surplus Jeep should cost less than a classic BMW. #1953willysm38a1arcticjeep

1953 just isn't a desirable enough year for Jeep. It's too modern, if that makes any sense. There is just too little to differentiate this from a CJ5 or CJ7 from the 1970s. If there were documentation proving some significant provenance, it might be worth well over the asking price, but without that, it's just an old non-running Jeep with some rust issues and a rare, but funny looking hard top.

Yes, it's a cool Jeep, but you'll see plenty of these arctic Jeeps driving through snowbanks in hell before I spend $5700 on this one.

    Crack pipe.

@smalleyxb122: Yeah, this is a lot more CJ5 than CJ2A. The CJ2A was pretty crude. Rugged as a block of steel, but crude. #1953willysm38a1arcticjeep
