Currently owned by James Clark of Vancouver, Washington, this rare Ferrari was originally purchased in 1947 for $3800. Clark has spent numerous years restoring this Italian thoroughbred back to its original shine and in our humble opinion, has done an impeccable job.

This Ferrari 166 Corsa Spyder, serial number 004C, is the second Spyder Corsa built and it's been said that it's the fourth Ferrari ever constructed. You read that right — The fourth Ferrari. Ever. In total, eight Corsa Spyders were ever created, but this car is one of two that still have the original body in place.

Powered by a longitudinally, front mounted SOHC 2.0-liter V12 featuring two valves per cylinder and three Weber carbs. It produced a measly 110 horsepower @ 6000 rpm, but for the day it was one of the faster derby horses and really paved the way for modern day Ferrari V12s.

The 'Rossa Corsa' red body was formed in aluminum and laid down on a tubular steel frame suspended by double wishbone control arms with transverse semi-elliptic leaf springs and friction dampers in the front; while a live axle, semi-elliptic leaf springs and Houdaille friction dampers round out the rear suspension setup. At 1763 pounds, this early racer must not have been a screaming rocket, but with drum brakes at all four corners, we're sure it was about as scary as a rocket to drive.

We had a trio of Honda 600s in an earlier Project Car Hell, and the subject of this insane Hayabusa-powered 600 came up in the comments. Since then, the idea of stuffing one of Suzuki's loony engines in a 600 has hovered around us, a miasma we can only dispel by showing how we might go about doing the same sort of thing on a smaller budget. So! The recipe could go as follows: Take one tube-framed 1971 Honda 600 (go here if the ad disappears) and subtract the Chevette engine that comes with it. Next, add one this 2001 Hayabusa engine (go here if the ad disappears), which is already set up for installation in a four-wheeled vehicle. Stir well, seasoning liberally with blood, sweat, and cubic dollars. The 600 is already set up for rear-wheel drive (which is fine) but that doesn't mean you can't convert it back to front-drive and end up with the scariest torque-steering beast to ever drive on a public road... or get a second Hayabusa engine and make it a twin-engined, all-wheel-drive, totally uncontrollable deathtrap!

Screaming small-displacement engines are fun, especially with the unearthly power-to-weight of a Hayabusa mill, but there's something to be said for an engine that delivers maximum tire-obliteratin' torque at a mere 1,450 RPM. Hell, the Hayabusa probably spins that fast before it's even assembled! And what goes with serious diesel grunt? That's right, a big ol' postwar Detroit chariot- like, say, this 1947 Ford (go here if the ad disappears). It comes with a Chevy 350, which you can sell off and recoup .005% of the project's costs! Not only that, you get a Ford 9" rear, which might even withstand the torque of this Duramax diesel V8
(go here if the ad disappears). Yes, naysayers, we know the engine needs rebuilding, but you get the engine ECU, an Allison transmission, and a transfer case- and the seller takes credit cards! This sailing-ship hood ornament- which I sure hope lights up- definitely contends with the 1950 Pontiac for our Best DOTS Hood Ornament Award. Hmmm... there's a poll idea...


It's got the visor, the low stance, the removal of some (though not all) of the trim. Is this Plymouth a rat rod? Not that I care about such labels, but it's a subject we've debated before without coming to a consensus.


The owner wasn't around when I shot these photos, but his wife stuck her head out the kitchen window and told me to go ahead and open the doors if I wanted to get better interior photos. I love this town!


This is a good height for this car; still drivable, yet not towering over the road at factory height.


This front end looks pretty bulky, maybe not quite measuring up to the graceful lines of the rest of the car; perhaps the grille from a '50 Plymouth might work on this car?
