Damn GM, selling short every decent nameplate they have right straight into the crapper...

GMC is a TRUCK builder, and has been ever since they flanged together Rapid, Reliant, and the manufacturing division of Yellow Cab back in the 'teens, taking a spindly station wagon and vigorously whacking it with the fugly-stick then sticking GMC badges on it is an Abomination :(

Then again, GM hasn't built a truck worthy of the name since the last 'R' and 'V' models trickled out in '91 anyway so it's no huge surprise.

I'm certain, however, that the DI 4-cylinder won't actually be available, unless you special order and pay sticker for it, as is often the case with the base engines in most cars sold these days.

Beyond that, I really want to know why the GMC and Chevy truck and "truck" lines both exist.

As a former GMC owner, I know that the only "advantage" is that it's slightly more difficult to find trim pieces than it is for the Chevy equivalent.

This is like a cartoon of a cartoon. It's way more embarrassing than the posturing of the Rams. I didn't know there were so many people with such deeply repressed insecurities that this 'truck' (large, tall wagon) was required.

Nice going on the mpg, though.

Chevy version? Equinox, check.
Saturn version? VUE, check.
Cadillac? SRX, check.
SAAB? 9somethingXsomething, check.
Pontiac? Torrrent, check.

all we need now is a Buick Rainier redux on this platform to complete the set.

just when i'm thinking that GM has woken up and is really TRYING to get it right, they waste resources on something like this. no matter how good a car/truck/thingy this is, it's redundant.

Not too bad, however, there is a sense of very bad proportions about the car's design, more specifically huge square wheel arches, huge grille and basically a big, fat face with no chin, matched to pretty regular body and wheels. It's like a "normal" and "regular" looking SUV with extra body cladding (ewwww) added. Back to the drawing board if you want this to be a success, GM.

Since when did "Rugged looks" translate directly to "Looks like it was infected with chlamydia sometime before it was hit directly in the face with a shovel twenty-seven times"?

The interior is alright, yeah, okay, whatever, but to present an example: the Fiesta's interior is loads better, and it's a motherfucking econobox !!

We definitely need another crossover, especially a crossover created through platform prostitution and given to a brand who's image was supposedly based on rugged, durable product.

Crossovers make no sense whatsoever to me. The Terrain is no exception.

Beauty is as beauty does.. One of the things that caused the carpocalypse was detroit becoming obsessed with "image" and "design" what they need to focus on is engineering and quality. How about building a dashboard out of a material that doesn't feel like it was shat by a cylon? Just because the airbags' presence means noone's face will ever touch the dashboard DOESN'T mean it has to be made of a plastic that makes babies cry and kittens claw at their own faces.

@Kelster: GM obsessed with design? What are you smoking?! GM has produced some of the ugliest cars in existence. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that it was their lack of good exterior design that caused GM to fail so badly. I suppose you could point to some individual cars from GM that are exceptions to that; the Sky/Solstice, the CTS, the G8 and the most recent Malibu for instance are all good looking cars. And the Corvette of course. But practically everything else, especially under the GMC badge, has been quite ugly for many years.

When you say "beauty is as beauty does" I think you're trying to say that as long as the car underneath is good (is efficient, reliable, etc) people will buy it. But the fact is that no one will buy this car because it looks so bad. There's a big difference between an unusual and homely car like the Prius and a dowright ugly car like this.

Am I looking at different pictures than you guys did? Because, you know, Jalopnik Gold was a few days ago.

The Acadia-grilled, rebadged Vue version of the Terrain was better looking than this. And I hate the '08+ Vue.

@wimbles: No, Jalopnik Gold is long gone, but much like the C5 Vette, this thing is better seen in the round. Granted, saying it looks cool for a compact SUV is like saying Target is a really great big box store.

@cargogh: Well, even though the '59 Plymouth is my least favorite finned Plymouth, and '59 Plymouth taxi = PMY:FAIL, they're still leagues above this thing IMHO.
