So, based on precedent, this will have the same engine options as the X3, be even more cramped and awkward looking for an astounding savings of 20 lbs and 300 bucks.

I think it's okay that BMW has an SUV. I just don't understand the need for four of them. X5 is plenty.

I have the same criticism for almost every other automaker...but none of them are trying to project the brand image that BMW does. Brand delusion = Brand dilution

Yeah, I got nothin'. BMW seems to want to be GM. A car in every segment! Create new segments, and put cars in those too! Combine two segments, make a car that fits both!

BMW should ask GM how well being GM is working out for them.

After looking at some clearer concept picts, I think this would look so much better as a coupe instead of a 4 door. And it would fit more inline with the x1 name sake, atleast for the US market.

@CorporateFelon: Nice insight. I think I agree. At least a two-door 2+2 cute-ute would differentiate it from the X3 and keep it in line with the 1-series, like you said.

I really have no idea of how big this things will be or why they're making it. The X3 although not tiny isn't exactly huge either. I'm all for variety but do we really need a slightly smaller, slightly lower X3?!

@racerx: I've asked that question about every new BMW in the past 5-7 years.

None of them improve appreciably on an existing car already in the stable.

@racerx: The only thing I can figure is competitive necessity (not just for the company, but for the customers).

For their target market, you can't just sell a 5-series wagon as your answer to a Volvo XC90. When Janie pulls up to her Junior League meeting on Tuesday nights, she can't be below the eye level of the vindictive, competitive f*cking bitch Marie..OH HEEEYYYY Marie, how are you?!

DAMN YOUTUBE BLOCK ! now i'll have to actually "work" instead of watching some tin can microSUV hoon the snow (something a 1 liter panda is capable of)

which reminds me, those bastards at BMW should rethink their line: 3,5,6,7,8 series (along with M variants to the bottom 3) and that's it. Leave SUVs to Landrover (and American Manufacturers)

Bangle may have left the building,but the ugly strokes left from his pencil will haunt us all for years. All the snow in the world can't hide that ugly.

Doesn't Bangle know at the other end of that pencil is an eraser for such mistakes.
