I'll be this new Lincoln is priced high 40's, placing it below the Audi A6 Avant (right at $50k base) and the BMW 535i sportwagon ($56k). Those prices are before options so jack them up accordingly to make the cars equipment-comparable.
So, yeah, for a $5-10k minimum price premium I'd hope the eurosleds have more attractive interiors. Personally I wouldn't buy any of these cars but I'd be hard pressed to find 10 grand's worth of added euro value.
Why do I get the feeling Jalopnik is in, "Save Detroit mode"? That write-up is something I would expect to see from one of those early morning "news" shows. Or, is this just the forward before Tommy Kendall's "test drive" on Speed?
@plyhard13: I've been feeling that way about everything this week. I'm not particularly impressed by anything I've seen this week at Detroit, but you'd think Detroit had just unveiled the most amazing lineup of cars in a century.
But they haven't.
I think this Venza-eater would've been flat-out trashed 6 months ago.
Back in the 50s builders were attaching the "Dollar Grin" to every car they could, huge whacking grilles with acres and acres of chrome chrome chrome. If it sparkled it was worth the trouble. It reeked of newfound prosperity.
Now granted newfound prosperity might not be the look they're going for here, but you can't fault them for shooting for a high-luxe image, even if it is following a standard that's over fifty years old.
But in this iteration you just can't call it a Dollar Grin. It's more of a harelip.
With all of the interesting cars coming out of this year's DAS, I almost forgot how badly some car makers can screw things up. This thing is the worst! That cowcatcher up front, the elongated nose, the slabsided doors, the dropping midline at the C pillar... the list of horrible decisions goes on and on.
Funny thing is, underneath I think there might have been a good design idea. It almost feels like they set out to design an Audi Q7 competitor and found that by the end of the project it was just a little too close to the original, so they had to uglify it just so people wouldn't see that it was actually just a Q7.
What the hell is wrong with you people. This car is god damn gorgeous for the segment it is in.
Think of a Crossover youd like to have based on looks?
Lets remember the crossover is a refined minivan on steroids. Was there EVER a good looking minivan? NO. Thus, this car is the best thing thats ever come out for this segment.
It has a brash, almost 1950's style in the fact its almost Packard-like in size and shape. Its a handsome car no doubt. You guys are just more than eager to snap and scoff at any real styling done by an American company. Sorry its not a German resegmenter (X6, A7) get over it.

Apparently, badge engineering has been replaced by grille engineering.

Now, where have I seen that front-end before?

They can't do it now, but once their financial ship is righted, and it will be, it will be time to make a statement.

Sorry folks.

I just hope it doesn't eat me.
Also, why does thise new EKKO-boost engine gotta have 2 turbo chargers? Cant they get their 350hp from one bigger snail?
Its just that I'm gonna hate working on something that resembles a 1960's GE TurboFan with all that plumbing.

Seriously, though, how much is this - thing - likely to cost the American consumer?
(I'm assuming that not too many will be crossing the pond)

I pray for a return to outrageously designed cars, like in the 50's and 60's (and a bit in the 70s)... the high point of american car design.

The front is bold and completely unique.
