”Top Gear USA Host Tanner Foust Booted From Ferrari F1 Car
No, Tanner Foust is not being considered as a replacement for Kimi Raikkonen at Scuderia Ferrari, but the Top Gear USA host spent some time behind the wheel of a Ferrari Formula One racer. Though by "seat time" we mean that he just sat down in the car, and was then asked politely to get out. Lame. Apparently is was all a shtick for the SPEED Channel show "Supercars Exposed," hosted by Tanner. Although, you know, it sort of makes his Lamborghini Reventón test drive seem really exciting. Visit Autofiends to read more as they lap up Tanner's every single waking moment.Michael Schumacher Caught Speeding In Germany, Slapped With Three Points And A Fine
Evidently unable to control his urges, Michael Schumacher has been caught speeding in his native Germany. The Polizei pulled Schumi over driving above the posted 62 MPH limit, slapping him with a fine of about $108 and three points on his license. But that only equates to ten over the speed limit — some claim he was actually caught doing 87 MPH — not a big deal to you and me, but according to highly precise German law, Schumi should have gotten his license suspended. So what does the F1 meister have to say about all this? More »
ford super duty
It seems, along with an array of new stuff for the Ford Super Duty truck series, there will be a new special edition specifically designed for the urban outdoorsman: The 2009 Ford Super Duty Cabela's Edition FX4. But what's so special about it? Two-tone paint, Cabela's embroidery on the seats, and extra storage under the rear seats "perfect for keeping equipment secure and out of sight." That extra storage is great to, you know, thwart all those thieves out in the wilderness. But what about that "Big Hog Daddy?" Oh that. That's a Ford F-450 Harley Davidson Edition, and the above line is a direct quote from the press release.

KERS Electric Shock Explained; Watch Your Pencil Protectors
According to BMW Sauber, the reason behind the KERS electric-shock incident, seen above, which occurred during testing at the Jerez Speedway, was magic. Or at least, that's what the formal explanation looks like if you don't have a solid knowledge of electrical engineering. We're pretty good at chasing sparks and figuring out circuits, but wading through the engineer-speak is a toughy here. After slipping on our decoder ring, it sounds like the combination of a bad KERS controller and a leaky capacitor led to some extra electrons floating around. Deadly? No. Enough to shock the crap out of someone, though. See if you can decode it yourself; key quote below the fold. A homeowners association in the wealthy Dallas, Texas suburb of Frisco has been sending resident Jim Greenwood threatening letters due to his insistence on parking his new Ford F-150 truck in his driveway. The gated community of Stonebriar, where Greenwood lives, doesn't allow trucks, RV's, golf carts, trailers and other undesirable vehicles parked in front of houses. The rules do allow Escalades, Ridgelines and even the hideous looking Chevrolet Avalanche. HOA representative Bill Osborn explained the difference with the most ridiculous nouveau riche answer ever:"The high-end vehicles that are allowed are plush with amenities and covers on the back. It doesn't look like a pickup. It's fancier."More »

1983 Ford F Series: 300 Cubic Inches- Wait, We Mean 4.9 Liters!
Ford made the good ol' 240 and 300 inline sixes starting in 1964, and they had the torque and longevity to be great truck engines. By 1983, however, pushrod sixes were going the way of the vinyl LP- quick, get a metric designation on that thing, so buyers will think it's one of those newfangled V6s! We're a little skeptical that a Late Malaise F series pickup ever got 30 MPG highway, but maybe that test was done at a "highway speed" of 42 MPH, using a liquid measurement known as "Ford Truck Gallons," which are equal to 1.5 regular gallons.BMW, Williams, Honda Think KERS Will Be Ready To Go, Veto Delay Request From Whiners
In the ongoing saga of the kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) introduction to F1, some teams are beginning to wonder openly if the devices will be ready for competition in the 2009 Formula One season. Well-publicized events like the BMW mechanic being shocked, a battery fire at Renault and testing issues have raised concerns over safety, while cost and competitiveness are also causing heartburn. Since rules changes require a unanimous vote among teams, and Williams, BMW Sauber, and Honda think everything should move forward, the protestations led by Renault will likely fall on deaf ears. That said, the 2009 season will probably be plagued with electrical demons nasty enough to make Joe Lucas cry uncle. [AutoSport]2009 Ford F-150 Gets Top Tow Rating Of 11,300 Pounds
Ford has announced that the redesigned 2009 F-150 pickup will have best-in-class towing capacity of 11,300 pounds, up 300 pounds from the 2008 model, according to PickupTrucks.com. The weight rating is 500 pounds greater than that found on its nearest competitor, the Toyota Tundra, and marks an important competitive edge in the rapidly shrinking half-ton pickup market. Though Ford doesn't specify the configuration that will be rated for 11,300 pounds, expect it to be a 5.4-liter 2WD equipped with any optional towing packages. So, what changed? Last year's winner of the Hungarian Grand Prix has been immortalized in bronze at the track's "Park of Fame." Well, at least that's what they were shooting for with this plaque, but to our knowledge, Louis Hamilton was not the winner of the 2007 race. More »
down on the street
Welcome to Down On The Street, where we admire old vehicles found parked on the streets of the Island That Rust Forgot: Alameda, California. It's Truck Monday once again, and today I've decided to do something about the shortage of Nixon Era Fords in this series. A couple of sharp-eyed readers noticed this truck in the background of the photos of the Dart GT convertible, so I headed back to photograph it.

Fioravanti Coachbuilt Ferrari F430 Spotted Lapping Fiorano
The coach builders at Fioravanti have been caught testing a restyled Ferrari F430 this weekend at Fiorano. That would explain the lack of any camouflage, as the creation is likely a one-off built for rich customer as part of Ferrari's recently publicized effort to offer "whatever the hell you want" bespoke cars to those willing to shell out the necessary cash. The body looks to have been completely re-done, but are any power upgrades lurking under that retro-cool skin?More »

According to The Sun an unruly group of UK wedding guests spent this past weekend destroying five rented supercars valued at over $1.4 million. The carnage includes a Bentley Continental GT, a Ferrari F430 and three Lamborghini Gallardo Spyders. Although the details are still rather sketchy, here's what we've learned. More »

Here's What Being Electrocuted By A Formula One Race Car KER System Looks Like
Remember when that mechanic for BMW Sauber's F1 team got electrocuted after he touched their KERS-equipped (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) Formula One car? Now we've got video. True, it wasn't enough to kill the poor guy, but still a pretty rough day if you're that mechanic, right? No, there weren't any giant lightning bolts emanating from the car as we had hoped, but "shocking" nonetheless. [Gridcrasher]Don't Worry, KITT's New Truck Mode Is Microsoft-Approved
We already broke the story on KITT transforming from a GT500KR into a Ford F-150 FX4 pickup truck in the new Knight Rider TV show, but this morning PickupTrucks.com has the scoop on the full story and it's a whopper. Apparently, Exec Producer Gary Scott Thompson and his production team went to Microsoft to help with determining what the future of automobiles looks like. Microsoft, other than focusing on a future where every car comes with Sync and owners pay $100 upgrade fees each year for new Sync XP software updates, came up with the idea of having it shift forms as long as it keeps the same mass. Yes, you know, like how a Mustang and a pickup truck have the same mass. OK, so maybe the rear axles do, but here's what PUTC has to say:More »

First Video Of KITT Valmorphanizing Into A Ford F-150 FX4 Pickup Truck
Somewhere between "Morphing" and "Transforming" is the very Team America-ish "Valmorphanization." That's the term we feel best using to describe what KITT's doing in this one minute clip from the new Knight Rider TV show premiering September 24th on NBC. As you'd expect, KITT is apparently fitted with a current Ford lineup-limiter, only letting him "valmorphanize" into Ford products. Which explains why he's able to "valmorphanize" into a Ford F-150 FX4 pickup truck rather than the more appropriate "Ranchero" form factor we hoped for when we heard about his plethora of new looks yesterday. Shifter Kart Hits The Streets...The Public Streets!
What you're going to see in this video is breathtakingly illegal, enormously stupid, and probably a bunch of fun. This is an out-take from the "Kartvader" DVD, a 44-minute romp through the night-time streets of Quebec on a two-cycle, 125 cc, 6-speed shifter kart, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph. We can only imagine what that kind of speed feels like when your ass is an inch off the ground. Apparently cops in Quebec just loiter at the Tim Horton's all day; seriously, how'd he get away with this? [Youtube]
ford f-150 plug-in hybrid
Rather than make yet another Mustang derivative, Hybrid Electric Vehicle Technologies has done something relevant and managed to install a plug-in hybrid system in a Ford F-150 pickup truck. The resulting vehicle achieves a combined fuel economy of up to 41 MPG, up from a combined 16 MPG on the 2WD version of the truck. HEVT will now offer the technology as a retrofit on a limited basis as they conduct further testing in an effort to put it into mass production. See, how hard was that?
