This August at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, a car will go up for auction that seems to be the perfect storm of desirability: it's a stunning classic Ferrari, and it was owned by Steve McQueen. It's his 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4, and it could fetch a hell of a lot of money.
As we reported earlier this year, McQueen ordered this Ferrari to his custom specifications and picked it up while he was filming Bullitt. Its recent restoration included getting a roof again after some monster lopped it off to make it a convertible.
Classic Ferraris certainly aren't cheap at auction, but lately the cars owned by McQueen have skyrocketed in value. His 1970 Porsche 911T fetched $1.3 million in 2011, about six to eight times what it would be worth had it been owned by some mere mortal.
Earlier this year a new record was set for 275 GTB/4 auctions after one went for $3 million at a Bonhams Auction. McQueen's car should unquestionably obliterate that.
What can I say? The man had good taste.
