The 2010 Cadillac SRX we first saw in the accidental debut by Rick Wagoner has again upgraded its pixel count with full resolution images of the next generation crossover. The next SRX moves away from the wagon-like version we now have and onto the Theta platform while showing off some Cadillac Provoq concept styling ques. Clearly evident is Caddy's modern 'Art and Science' design theme, but also note the tail lights which, at the right angle, give a hint of some tail fin action. Interesting. We've got the clearest pictures yet of the 2010 Cadillac SRX, betraying details that were only hinted at in GM's super-grainy release. Based on the Theta premium platform, the new crossover from Cadillac manages to stretch the handsome dimensions of the Cadillac CTS Coupe over the proportions of a CUV. The photos show nearly the entire, unseen caboose of the SRX almost completely uncovered. It seems like Cadillac is putting more art in their Art & Science, a move we applaud. There is some seriously icky, professional grade marketeering going on over the pond in Great Britain. Cadillac SRX's are being pitched as "mobile think spaces" for business folk who can't keep focused in the tough and distracting workplace environment. Chauffeurs will show up at a place of work, pick up a client or a small meetings worth of clients, drive them around while they think, and then return them. Motor Trend is reporting today the Cadillac SRX could be replaced by a five-passenger Art & Science-design BMW X3-sized crossover for the 2011 model year. That makes sense if it's going to share architecture with the 2009 Saab 9-4 — the replacement for the much larger 9-7x. For the engine, the US version will come from GM's new direct-injection gas 3.6-liter V6 with a two-mode hybrid system optional and a diesel V6 using "closed loop combustion" overseas. Sounds like a fun little luxe-UV — however, MT's also reporting it'll be designed primarily for the Euro and global market with US sales coming afterwards. I know I'm just about ready to smack the next person that calls a wagon a "CUV." I know it's the new hotness of marketing terms, but there's got to be a better way to define vehicles that clearly aren't sedans and yet, don't quite have that Jeep Grand Cherokee / Hummer / Explorer thing going for them. Yes — the technical definition of a unibody vehicle rather than an SUV built on a body-on-frame truck platform should suffice for most of the off-road wannabes — but I'm sorry Chrysler Pacifica, Subaru Outback and Dodge Magnum — y'all are wagons. Suck it up, take it as a loss, and move on. But, we do empathize with the General, who according to Automotive News, is having a bit of a problem trying to figure out what to call the new class of non-car, non-truck, non-suv vehicles they've got coming out over the next year. That'd be the threesome of the Saturn Outlook, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave. The problem is, the General's already used the CUV classification to describe the Caddy SRX.
