Let's say you have a <del>Lincoln LS</del> Jaguar S-Type and you're looking to tart it up a bit. You could go with any number of body kits, lowering components, flashy grilles and billet wheels, but you want to set yourself apart from the crowd. Do something, you know, classy. This is where Goldstriker comes at ya with 24 blingtastic karats of pure gold-plated luxury. Not only do they offer all the shiny bits for a Jag, but they've also got stuff for your Audi, Chrysler 300C, BMW, Benzie and more. Here you go kids, it's your brand-saving entry from Shag-you-are, the XF. Yeah, it's not as hot as the XF Concept, even though Mr. Cullum promised it would be. Still, this cat's got some good curves on her, even going so far as aping Aston's DB9 from behind. Dare we say that perhaps we were a bit too hasty in our initial verdict? Or does everything look simply snazzy under 17 coats of wax, professional lighting and 50 gallons of none-more-black paint? And have we shown you the interior? No, really, have a look at the gorgeous orange seats. You'll plotz. We did. More »

Ford executives have a long and noble history of failing upwards. This seems to be especially true where the company's Premier Automotive Group (Jaguar, Volvo, Land Rover, Aston Martin) is concerned. After Premier's premier Premier Wolfgang Reitzle bled billions trying to transform a rag tag army of money-losing foreign car brands into the Louis Vuitton collection of upmarket autos, Bill Ford offered Wolfie the keys to the entire kingdom. When Mark Fields assumed control of Ford's English patient, his efforts failed to staunch the arterial spray of red ink. In fact, Automotive News reports that Jaguar North America CEO Mike O'Driscoll, marketing executives Richard Beattie and George Ayres, sales boss Doug Speck, PR chief Simon Sproule and finance boss Geoff Cousins hatched a plan in '04 to restrict Jag sales to supercharged models. Rather than making a Bold Move, Fields let the brand's British bosses smother it in its crib. Today, supercharged X-Type prototypes are in storage, Jaguar's American sales are in the toilet and Fields has the keys to the executive washroom, as Ford's President of the Americas. Go figure. [FYI: Best quote: "All Ford's 'no' guys came out of the woodwork," says a Jaguar source. "You know, legal, engineering, warranty. It was doomed."] – Robert Farago More »

Amid the din surrounding Jaguar's C-XF concept unwrapping, set for next week at the Detroit show, it's easy to forget the car is a mere augur for the S-Type replacement, unsurprisingly dubbed XF. Spies recently caught sight of that car, which will likely be less stylized than the proto-model that trumpets its arrival later in 2007 for the 2008 model year. As is clear from a new round of pics, the front and rear workups deviate from the prototype's Aston-like schnoz and bum, while the roofline, according to Winding Road, will make it appear less coupelike than the concept. Consider it like the bride a few months later, out buying a bag of pretzels. Or something. – Mike Spinelli More »

If the sign of a good facelift is you don't notice Dr. 90210's handiwork, the Jaguar's S-Type gets a unanimous two liposuction nozzles up. It's a little sleeker and more refined for 2008, though no performance gains are on tap for the top-of-mast S-Type R (were we expecting any?). The most notable (if not noticeable) work has been done to its face, which looks just like the old one, only different. – Mike Spinelli More »

Some people find the Jaguar S-Type to be rather hideous. We actually like it, although the design is certainly a tad long in the tooth and more-than-ripe for an upgrade. But this predictive rendering its successor, the new XF, due to roll into showrooms in '08...eeeee... It looks like what would result if Rover commissioned Ralph Gilles' old self to design an Audi. Unfortunate. Let's hope that the artist is off the mark. – Davey G. You can't tell from the shots of this test mule, but Jaguar's next S-Type is on its way to a mid-2007 unveiling, ahead of the 2008 model year. A head-to-toe redesign — spec'ed in Photoshop on The Car Connection — will give the new-generation S a sleeker shape and, and hopefully for Jaguar, more customers. Drawing from the RD6 and R Coupe concepts, it'll feature an oval, mesh grille, twin single-unit headlights and a bumper with integrated twin fog lamps. Under the hood will reside the same powerplants as the current model: 2.7-liter turbodiesel, 3.0-liter V6 and 300-hp and 4.2-liter V8, along with a supercharged version powered by the XKR's eighter. With its fortunes unassured, Jag is in attack mode, with BMW's 5-Series in its sights. But can it pull the trigger? – Mike Spinelli More »

The folks over at the Road so curvy many would even call it Winding have made spy photog Brenda Priddy a little bit more monied today — buying shots of what she claims is the new-look Jaguar S-type. True, what you see before you, and in further detail at Sheryl Crow's fave site, appears to be little more than a 2006 Jaguar S-type with a bit of a new nosecone. Priddy suggests that this is but a mule for FoMoCo's "Team Jaguar" to test out the next-gen kitty's new engine. We'll let Priddy take it from here: More »

In this week's missive, AutoWeek's gone into high speculation mode regarding the next-generation Jaguar S-Type. They say (and frankly, they're not wrong) the success of the next S will likely determine Jag's fate. Considering the buckets of bucks Ford's poured over the cat in recent years, full envelopes had better start finding their way to the back room. AW says the next models will abandon styling tropes of the past and stake out new ground, led by design capos Ian "The Iron Pentagraph" Callum and henchman Julian "India Ink" Thompson. More »

Remember the old days, back in 2004, when Jaguar — though circling the drain — was optimistic that aluminum stamping processes would lighten up its mid-range S-Type? Then, last year, the company said it would keep steel for the frame, but aluminum for the body. Now, word is, the next-gen S-Type will be fashioned entirely of Superman flesh, though would lose the platform it shared with the Lincoln LS in favor of all-new underpinnings. The good news is the steel job would save time, allowing the company to launch the next S-Type for 2008 instead of 2009 (before sales really fell off a cliff). Images of the new S-Type were revealed late last week as a teaser while Jag was introducing its XKR models. Good news for soda cans, bad news for Jaguar fans. More »

The boys from MPH have procured some shots of a compelling test mule of the next-generation Jaguar S-Type. It's a current-model, on which has been attached a new front end that looks to be styled after Jag's R-D6 prototype, which we hear will heavily influence the new S-Type, due in late 2007 as a 2008 model. Apparently, this kind of Frankensteinan engineering is done quite often, though hardly ever using the brain of Abby Normal. More »

Jag's next-generation S-Type, coming in 2007 as a 2008 model, won't have an all-aluminum chassis like the XJ and new XK coupe, according to AutoWeek, but it will get a ground-up redesign that includes a lightweight aluminum (that's al-u-MINum) body. According to UK witnesses, the new car will have a body that shares the currently fashionable "four-door coupe" design like the Mercedes CLS — making Jaguar the fourth company rumored or confirmed to be preparing such a car, behind Mercedes, Pontiac (!), Porsche and VW. AW also reports the car's face will be heavily influenced by the R-D6 concept (pictured). More »
