Volkswagen will add the A5-platformed Tiguan ute to the list of veedubs that get the R Line treatment at this year's Essen Motor Show. Other than this press image we don't have much in the way of details, but from other R Line vehicles we can assume that the revised body kit, wheels and interior bits can be added onto your Tiguan with whatever powerplant you (and by you we mean some European dude) choose. More »

Although Volvo bosses said earlier this year he company was dropping its R-line designation for sport-tuned bricks like the slow-selling S60 R, an R-like sport pack may take some to the sting away. Back-of-fence talk focuses on a new Volvo sports package comparable to Audi's S-Line upgrades. According to Swedish site Bilfeber Volvo is working up just such add-ons for the new S40 and V50 models. They'll include cosmetics and mild performance kit (read: stiffer suspension, etc.). That may dovetail with a few rumored smokers, Motor Authority points out, including a sportier C30 hatch and a turbocharged V8 for the S80. Count them out of the performance game at your own peril. – Mike Spinelli More »

Volkswagen Individual, the company's in-house accessories shop for European tweakers, revealed its R line models at the Essen show last week, with such packages planned for the Golf, Touran minivan, Passat and Touareg SUV. Some might say the company is irreparably diluting its R performance brand (whither the new R32 in the US, huh?) by associating it with mainly cosmetic treatments, just as Audi does with its S line packs. But VW cares not for such talk, and will move ahead with the R line models for Europe in 2007. They'll include alloy wheels, body kits and interior upgrades, but no engine tuning. We hear the company's plotting something similar for the US market, but no word yet. – Mike Spinelli More »
