Nissan Qashqai+2 Revealed Ahead Of London Motor Show

Nissan has issued the first pictures of its new seven-seater crossover vehicle that takes the Qashqai and cranks the knob up by "+2." That's right, it's called the Qashqai+2, an all-new bigger Qashqai that seats two more than the original model of the strangely-named CUV. Nissan accomplishes the increased room by upping the wheelbase size from the 103.5 inches found in the Qashqai to 108.86 inches and the overall length from 169.7 inches to 178.2 inches. The new Qashqai+2 will be launched at the London Motor Show in July and comes to UK showrooms in the autumn. No word yet on whether we'll see the new crossover from the Japanese side of Carlos Ghosn's global partnership of equals, but we truly doubt it because despite the Qashqai being named after a nomadic people in Iran, the CUV has traveled pretty much only throughout the nations of Europe. Still, bully for Nissan for bucking trends by moving super size in a world where that's making increasingly less sense. Full press release after the jump. More »

I swear to god, with my robot obsession, you'd swear I was Japanese. They're the only culture crazed over bots enough to hold me, much less contain me. I'd fit right in — if I weren't 6'3" and teeming with 'merican nationalist spirit. But still, the Japanese deserve the credit for merging automotive culture with the ultra-futuristic robotic stuff. And no company seems to be doing more of that right now than Nissan (or it's hetero life-mate Renault). Enter the Qashqai for the JDM. They're calling it the Dualis and they're marketing it as a "powered suit." Thus, the big honkin' robot that'll be on display at the Nissan Gallery from May 23 to June 13 in Tokyo. After that it'll be at the Sony Building from June 25 to July 1st. Essen Show Preview: Cobra N+ Nissan Qashqai

Our chap about town, Nick Hall, is hanging around Germany's Essen tuner show (like the US's SEMA), attending to the ~~ladies~~ vehicles on display. While he's there, he'll likely come across Cobra's N+ program as applied to the Nissan Qashqai, the company's new compact SUV currently only available in Europe. The package includes cosmetics like chromed and stainless-steel body components, sport muffler, 18" wheels and interior jewelry. All that stuff gives the ropy ute a bit more heft. Nissan Qashqai Revealed

In advance of a proper coming-out at the Paris show, Nissan released the press kit on its new Qashqai earlier today, with more details on how the mini Murano will take on small mommymobiles of the world in tribal warfare. It's definite the Q-ship will be sold in Europe and Japan, though a US release has been rumored. The European model will come in a range of gas and common-rail diesel fours — gas: 1.6-liter (114 hp / 118 lbs-ft) and 2.0-liter (138 hp/148 lbs-ft); diesel: 1.5-liter (104 hp / 177 lbs-ft) and 2.0-liter (148 hp / 236 lbs-ft) — along with standard five-speed manual and available six-speed automatic and all wheel drive. It's based on Renault-Nissan's C-platform, which also underpins the new Sentra in the US. It's also the first design from Nissan's new London studio (pints on us, chaps). Click through for more pics. Frankly, we're not exactly straight on which indigenous pastoral nomad, live-giving root vegetable or eskimo colloquialism gave itself to name Nissan's new crossover, the Qashqai. But the company's going ahead and planning to reveal the baby Murano next week, in advance of a proper unveiling at the Paris motor show in late September. Spy Photos: Nissan Qashqaiwhatsis?

Word Car Fans posted some shots of the production version of the 2004 Nissan Qashqai concept, caught during shakedown tests in Germany. It's a small crossover ute that'll show up in the US with a name far less obviously connected to Iranian nomads, but nonetheless ready to attack the market for Toyota RAVs and Honda CRVs. The ute will have a visual connection to the new Nissan Versa, as well as the same 2.0-liter four (or a yet-unnamed six) and CVT transmission. Look for it in 2007 or so. More »
