Showing off a bra that gets translucent when wet, the Theta-Epsilon chassis-ed 2010 Cadillac BRX was caught by star car spy shooter Chris Doane. The new CUV from the General is expected to start production in May of 2009 at the Ramos Arizpe plant with its platform-sharing cousin, the Saab 9-4X, in May of 2009 as a 2010 model year vehicle. So since the last shots of the 2010 BRX was spotted, what do we find as different? There's that grille — like the Provoq concept's drastic change from the Art & Science look of the past few years of the Cadillac brand. The quick-to-the-snap spy photographers at KGP have shot what they think is the upcoming 2009 Cadillac BRX doing some cold weather testing out near GM's Milford proving grounds. At least we can only assume it's cold weather testing as it's wearing a leather snowsuit that'd make even little Randy topple over into the snow. Plus we're here, so we know it's frickin' freezing. According to KGP's sources, this actually may not even be the BRX. We heard back in December GMC was also going to get a Theta-platformed CUV, and after the arrival of Cadillac's Provoq concept at CES and the Detroit Auto Show — which features several design cues that alternately match, and differ from this prototype, neither us, nor <s>Black Bart's</s> KGP's shooters are comfortable in decisively stating that yes, this is the BRX. However, it's more likely than not — and that Vue-like shape is a pretty obvious tell that it's a Theta. While we're not sure whether it'll be 2009 or 2010 when we'll see the first BRX, the full description from KGP of their reasoning why this is representin' Cadillac style and not so much professional grade, after the jump. And by the way — we actually decided not to buy KGP's pictures this time around as they're not that much different from the last prototype tester seen in our last set of shots — only this time more close-up. So we've decided instead just to run these old n' busted shots of the 2009 Cadillac BRX below and we've linked to his new shots after the description after the jump. More »

It's no surprise the Provoq would be peeping its hydrogen-tastic head out at the Detroit Auto Show, especially since GM decided to unveil it at the Consumer Electronic Show last week. A mere seven days have passed and the specs haven't changed: it's a fuel cell crossover capable of traveling 300 miles on a single fill of hydrogen. It's not too shabby in the power department, either: 0-60 mph in 8.5 seconds and a 100mph top speed, which is a 30-percent improvement compared to previous-generation hydrogen fuel cells. The one baffling moment of the otherwise lucid unveiling occurred when Bob Lutz decided to compare the Provoq's debut to the iPhone launch. He said Cadillac's E-Flex engine, which the Provoq uses, is "a revolutionary product that changes everything"—a line originally delivered by Steve Jobs referring to his company's non-hydrogen-powered digital communications device. Brilliant! Put the iPhone next to the Provoq and I couldn't tell a difference. What about you? More »

Viva, Las Vegas, baby! Our ramblin' and gamblin' boss is in Sin City for a day and he's reporting back on GM's latest concept car they're showing off at the 2008 CES show. As we told you first earlier today, the General's luxe brand has brought some hydrogen-powered action to the Consumer Electronics Show in the form of the 2008 Cadillac Provoq Fuel Cell concept car. It's a hydrogen fuel cell crossover — but you're probably wondering how it works. Here's what the General has to say:
"The concept can drive 300 miles (483 km) on a single fill of hydrogen - with 280 miles (450 km) from hydrogen and 20 miles (32 km) on pure, battery electric energy...a pair of 10,000 psi (700 bar) composite storage tanks beneath the rear cargo floor hold 13.2 pounds (6 kg) of hydrogen to feed the fuel cell stack, located under the hood. There, hydrogen mixes with oxygen to generate electricity - up to 88 kW continuous power. A lithium-ion battery pack can store up to a total of 9kWh of electrical energy and also provides a peak of 60 kW of power for additional performance...the electricity generated by the fuel cell is distributed to a 70 kW co-axial drive system for the front wheels and individual, 40 kW wheel hub motors on the rear wheels, giving the Cadillac Provoq its all-wheel-drive traction and great driving dynamics. Its 0-60 mph (approximately 100 km/h) speed of 8.5 seconds is a more than 30-percent improvement over the previous-generation fuel cell system and with instantaneous torque to the wheels, it feels even faster. Provoq has a top speed of 100 mph (160 km/h)."
The Provoq is built on the E-Flex system — the same platform that brought us the electric Volt at the Detroit Show, the diesel Flextreme in Frankfurt and a few others we don't care to remember. It's all about being flexible for the General — kind of like the showgirls Wert's spending the night oggling. Full press release after the jump. More »

GM announced today that they would be debuting the Cadillac Provoq at the CES show in Las Vegas. According to the company the Provoq "continues Cadillac's remarkable heritage of landmark concept vehicles, this time in a vehicle free from petroleum fuel and emissions, the ultimate luxury." Translation: electric car. While we don't have details we do know that we'll be there to bring it to you as soon as it bows (if not sooner). The car will then reappear at the Detroit Auto Show. Since we have no art here's the Caddy Cien concept, which the car will probably look nothing like.
