    Ford Fires Camilo Pardo

    other size(s): 800 1280

A New Blue Monster Arrives at Doral: In the midst of a hectic test schedule, Ford's Gulf Blue Ford GT supercar prototype descends on the famed Doral Blue Monster golf course for the Ford Championship PGA TOUR tournament in Miami. The supercar dons Gulf Oil inspired sky blue and orange paint scheme that helped make the original Ford GT40 an imposing figure on the race track. The modern Ford GT was stationed on a floating, race-inspired banked oval display in the middle of a lake on the course's classic finishing hole. Camilo Pardo, designer of the Ford GT40 concept that stole the headlines at the 2001 North American International Auto Show, continues to work on the program and gave his team the unique challenge of outfitting this prototype for display. The event was recently renamed when Ford Division agreed to a four-year title sponsorship agreement for the annual PGA TOUR event. "We don't usually put prototypes on display because the engineers have to beat them up so much," says Pardo. "We took this unusual step because the car looks great even with a few bumps and bruises."
