@Zapp.Brannigan: I guess in NYC, there's just such a wide swath of people that behavior like that is inevitable. It just amazes me sometimes how progressive yet backward that city can be. About the icon, thanks! Love yours too - always a big fan of Naruto.
This lady is truly admirable. Despite the positives of her story, I can't help but be sickened by the behavior by that man.
I don't want to put down NYC, because I love that place and lived there for a decade, but as great as that city is, female degradation is far more rampant than I've seen elsewhere. I just remember, even if I went outside just to walk my dog in a baggy shirt and soccer shorts (like Umbros - not hot pants), guys would scream at me from their cars or honk, or tell me something like "girl, all the things I would do to you" (like I want to hear that), or that awful "psst psst." And if I ignored them, I'd get called a bitch or a whore.
On the subway, dudes would try to grind up on me or stare or find some unnecessary way to overly lean on me - ANYTHING to get bodily contact. And there's the men who just stand there on the sidewalks for hours, doing absolutely nothing, and when you walk by, they say something crude and leer at you. I'm not a supermodel either - any woman in NYC will tell you the same thing.
Many of my friends who went to Catholic grade schools and wore the uniforms said that men would whip their dongs out on the train and wack off in front of them - in front of grade school girls!
You can learn to deal with this behavior I guess, but you won't like it. At some point, you just get so used to it there that you forget about it - but that doesn't mean you enjoy hearing it - which you do, practically every day.
I find this type of behavior absolutely reprehensible. And I've heard people give the excuse like "oh some cultures are more vocal than others." That's bullshit. I know men of many different backgrounds who treat women respectfully. It's one man's decision himself to treat a woman like crap or to be a good person.
I've lived in other cities and have moved since for work and appreciate being able to walk my dog in peace and not have to get told I have a nice ass in the supermarket. NYC is a wonderful place where women can reach the highest of heights of success - but unfortunately once she leaves her office to go home, she gets to see a man's junk on the train and is called a slut on the sidewalk.
@Lawyer4Speed: He doesn't seem that funny on the show, but I've seen his standup and it's incredible. He's definitely got talent; he just needs to come into his own on the show.

Brooklyn Teacher Gets Stolen Car Back, All Souped Up
NEW YORK (AP) -- A Brooklyn schoolteacher whose car was stolen three years ago has gotten it back, totally souped up and unrecognizable.
Amanda Pogany's 1996 Honda was returned to her drag-race ready, with a new V-8 engine, manual transmission, leather interior, tinted windows and oversize tires.
Police found the car at an illegal chop shop and were able to trace it to Pogany even though the VIN number had been filed off.
Pogany had given up on ever getting the car back. She hasn't driven the new version of the Honda yet because she doesn't know how to drive a stick shift.

I attribute a good chunk of my insanity to the countless occasions I have been either stuck in traffic going into or while inside the sewer pipe that is Holland Tunnel.
@Shamoononon: Best laptops I've ever owned were IBM ThinkPads. I know they're Lenovo now and can't speak personally for their current quality, but everyone seems to like them. Of the two ThinkPads I've owned, only one has every crashed and it happened once after a kid knocked it off a table in one of my classes. Extremely reliable computers.
