<![CDATA[Comments from Mad_Science]]> <![CDATA[Comments from Mad_Science]]> <![CDATA[Mad_Science commented on Hyundai Genesis Drag Races A Porsche Boxster]]> These days there are tons of non-sports cars that haul ass in a straight line if you neutral-drop them at 3500rpm with the traction control off. That's what 275hp Camrys will do for you.

Either C/D or Motor Trend did a whole feature on it.

We're in an era where automakers can post good performance stats, but don't spend the time building really good sports cars.

I have no what length 6 second ETs correlate to.

<![CDATA[Mad_Science commented on GM Fires Next Salvo In PR Wars With "GM Facts And Fiction" Website]]> "There are dozens of companies around the world promising a practical electric vehicle in the near future. While we can't comment on the efforts of others, we can assure you, the Volt is for real."

Yeah, but it's not an electric car. Electric cars run solely on batteries and grid-supplied power. Having an on-board engine/generator makes it a series hybrid.

But hey, I'm elated to see official GM Spokesspeakers jumping into this like bitchy blog commenters.

Although, you did miss one major difference: Price.

If you can copy someone else's car for ~5 grand cheaper, you win.

<![CDATA[Mad_Science commented on What Road Sign Do We Need Most?]]> Dearly needed sign:
PAUSE

The PAUSE sign will replace stop signs at all but the busiest intersections. It means the same as a stop sign if there's traffic or pedestrians around, otherwise you're required to slow to under ~10 mph.

There's absolutely no reason to come to a full, complete stop every 300 yards in some neighborhoods. Think of the fuel, emissions, and noise savings.

...and yes: I am from California.

While the TC is surely more painful, the Allante is nearly as painful, with way more upside potential.

Like a rat in a behavior experiment that can't stop touching the red button, you'll just keep coming back for more punishment.

<![CDATA[Mad_Science commented on Do You Think You Can Drive Better Than ESC?]]> If tuned properly, there's no way most of us here could beat ESC on a track (ie, faster lap times). If you think otherwise, you're fooling yourself.

Done poorly, and it's more of a complicated hindrance.

Most offroad systems fall into this category. They simply can't react quickly enough to the changing traction and suspension conditions. Both axles locked still seems to work best.
