I always wondered how these got phased in and out. Most UPS trucks around here are modern diesels, but every now and again you'll see the old straight six/glasspack/manual tranny models.

This REEKS of the typical Maximum Bob/GM "It's the government/Toyota/someone other than GM's fault" reasoning that afflicts the company from top to bottom. While the basic premise that adapting NCAP standards would result in more small Euro-style cars makes sense, the existence of NHSTA standards doesn't seem to affect the Honda Fits, Toyota Yarises, Nissan Versas, and Mini Coopers of this world. Leave it to GM to offer the Aveo to American consumers, which isn't even American designed/built, and then complain about how they're handcuffed by safety standards.

I used to be impressed by the percentage of New Beetle owners that actually use the flower vase. Then I learned that they get a new flower every time they're in for dealer service. So it's not an indicator of owner mood, it's an indicator of frequency of dealer service.

This is so natural, it could have been the first PCH. 1980s Chrysler combined with 1980s Mitsubishi and Maserati from almost any era equals PCH poster child.

We have an unofficial list going of Cars We Really Want Some Idiot To Bring To The 24 Hours of LeMons. It includes, but is not limited to, the following:

-Renault Fuego Turbo (Pretty much anything French, but this one stands out)
-Any type of Sterling
-Anything with a V12
-Toyota Prius
-Anything Russian
-A Bricklin, Laser 917, etc
-Yugo
-Daihatsu Charade

Bring one of those, and you're almost guaranteed to win SOMETHING. Take the plunge!

I remember a few years ago in SF, a woman went missing, and details about her car, including make, model, and license plate # were plastered all over the news and papers. The cops sent divers into the bay looking for the car. They found it a week later with a week's worth of parking tickets on it.

It ain't only about the hard data. Though I haven't driven the RS6, the R8 makes the regular S6 Avant feel like a Wagon De Ville. Real sports cars FTW.
