<![CDATA[Scott commented on Ford F150 Now With Under Hood Pit Bull Option]]> I once took a cat for a 10 mile ride......that didn't end in catgut all over my Neon. I arrived at my destination, for some reason opened the hood, and woke the cat that was napping peacefully in the tiny bit of space that isn't taken up by engine. It took off never to be seen again.

<![CDATA[Scott commented on Tokyo Auto Show Preview: Subaru EXIGA Concept Car]]> Proof that the Barons of Bland haven't converted all of Subaru's designers.

I think it'd look a lot better with 3-4 inches chopped out of the beltline and a grille that doesn't remind me of a CTS. But still, not a bad looking car.

<![CDATA[Scott commented on Hype Bubbling Back Up for EEStor's State-of-the-Art-Defying Battery Killer]]> @xenobread: US did experiments in microwave power transmission 30 or 40 years ago. The problem of solar power in space is the exorbitant cost or launching solar panels into space.

I really don't see EEStor going anywhere. Tesla has a much less ambitious project and they can't meet their initial performance projections.

<![CDATA[Scott commented on Why Do People Pimp Their Rides?]]> I don't think it's personalization. If that were the case, then why does everyone personalize their cars in roughly the same way with rims, decals, and wings that make their cars look like shopping carts?

It's just a continuation of being 'cool' by copying what the 'cool' people are doing.

<![CDATA[Scott commented on Comcast Caught Astroturfing About "Big Ten" Channel]]> Comcast is right about one thing; Big Ten Network sucks!

]]>
<![CDATA[Scott commented on Negotiations have broken down]]> The Big Ten Network is a horrible, horrible idea. All athletic footage now belongs to the conference instead of the schools.

Used to be, public TV here in WI would broadcast the games late at night (like midnight) for anyone to watch. I loved it because I don't have cable and therefore didn't get to watch the nationally televised games and because they also would air hockey games.

I have friends who are huge Badger sports fans who are considering boycotting because of this.

And now the Big Ten is talking about expanding to 12 teams again. But this time, for the sole reason of adding another media market to sell the Network to.

<![CDATA[Scott commented on Sorry, AirTran, your hostile]]> If Midwest goes to Valujet a.k.a. Airtran, they'd get rid of all of Midwest's signature amenities (although probably not the cookies). Midwest has built a successful business by offering more room and greater service instead of just trying to cram more people into their planes and Airtran just wants to expand their shitty service into more markets.

Northwest is a part of a private equity group that would leave Midwest alone. Northwest would not be involved in the running of Midwest. Plus, the TPG bid is actually worth more than the Airtran bid.

]]>
<![CDATA[Scott commented on USDA Pays Farm Subsidies To Dead Farmers]]> Umm, this isn't as big of a scandal as you make it out to be. The report says that the USDA is not verifying well enough the validity of paying dead farmers. There are valid reasons to continue paying subsidies to the estates of deceased farmers (the report does not state what those are) but the USDA needs to annually determine if an estate is eligible to continue receiving money.

The $1.1 billion figure is a good headline but is an exaggeration of the amount of money paid improperly. And the report recommends the USDA attempt to get all erroneously appropriated money back.

<![CDATA[Scott commented on Airports On High Alert After TSA Seizes Block Cheese]]> They just had to choose Wisconsin to try to sneak cheese on board. Didn't they know they'd just confiscate it to eat it even if it didn't have wires?

<![CDATA[Scott commented on With milk prices expected]]> Cows eat mostly grass and hay with corn as a supplement. It's simply too expensive to feed an all corn diet to cattle because they need 40-50 pounds of dry feed a day.

@dbeahn: We can't yet make ethanol from cellulose (switch grass) economically. But I agree we need to overhaul farm policy.

It has been pointed out that farmers are paid not to farm. On the flip side, much of the land for which farmers are being paid not to farm was done so in the name of conservation to stop farming on steep hillsides that erode or near streams and rivers (hence the name Conservation Resource Program).

@Rusted: No, ethanol from corn doesn't require more oil than it replaces. But yes, we do need to remove the $.54/gal ethanol tariff. But there are other environmental issues with Brazilian ethanol, namely the creation of farmland by cutting back rain forest.
