<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on Are Station Wagons Cool?]]> Wagons are cool... absolutely. I think the term 'station wagon' has a negative appeal to people. Call the thing a shooting brake and suddenly people will be flocking to this new car (and the media will call it a crossover). Besides, suv's are already wagons, just ones with big wheels and off road capabilities (but who uses that feature anyways?).
I'd say since the boomer generation generally frowns on wagons, we'll have to wait to see this generation pass away or at least until the younger generation becomes the more dominant buying culture and then we'll see a shift back to the wagon. It just makes too much sense. It's small enought to drive, big enough to haul and way more stylish than a van... plus it's better on gas which also might be why they're becoming more popular. oh, sorry, did I say wagons? Crossover-whatchamacallits!!

<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on Hummer H3T Proves Masculinity By Frolicking In Snow]]> @Unregular: It really has been a long week for you hasn't it? I never said it was ugly. The overall design is dated by about 5 years but I still think it's an attractive truck for those who appreciate its boxy appearance.

]]>
<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on Hummer H3T Proves Masculinity By Frolicking In Snow]]> @Unregular: Can you read?

]]>
<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on Hummer H3T Proves Masculinity By Frolicking In Snow]]> @TampaRon: You've guessed incorrectly. You may also want to retract your statement about dated being the same as ugly at the risk of sounding like an idiot. Is my 58 Chevy Impala ugly? It's certainly dated. There are many vehicles that maintain their beauty and/or appeal through the duration of time.

]]>
<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on Hummer H3T Proves Masculinity By Frolicking In Snow]]> I'd hardly call it ugly, rather dated.
What do you drive, Tamparon, that's so masculine/good looking?

]]>
<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on 2008 Smart Fortwo: First U.S. Drive]]> It's a crazy high price for what you get. I was actually considering driving one after I test drove it but you can get so much more car with just slightly less mpg. They ought to slash the price by at least 5g.

<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on Winter Guessing Game: Post Detroit Edition]]> @juhaniengelberg: The bumper cover doesn't look exactly the way I know it to be but now that I look at the above picture again, I can see how it could be an Audi as well. It's unbelievable how similar these cars are! Can anyone dig up a picture that confirms this?

]]>
<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on Winter Guessing Game: Post Detroit Edition]]> Without a doubt it's a Volvo S40... check out the forward profile, the rear end, the black rocker panels and the cladding strip above, also the little light on the mirror. However... now I'm second guessing based on the tailpipe. But a Volvo for sure.

]]>
<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on Detroit Auto Show: EyesOn Design Winners Announced]]> You guys are terrible! You can't award the Chrysler 'truck' thing a design award if it stole the front clip off a Cadillac. If you cheat on an exam you fail. Same goes here... you steal a design so you should loose.
Secondly, don't call these (Chrysler + BMW) trucks when they're not. It doesn't matter what the marketing PR stuff says... if they can't haul manure, they're not trucks.

]]>
<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on Detroit Auto show: Lexus Roadster in all its Press Shot Glory]]> Front end is way too boring. Rear tail lights are ugly. Side proportions are off. Overall I'd say close but no cigar.

]]>
<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on Detroit Auto Show: 2008 Lincoln MKT Live Reveal]]> I can't believe how ugly this is...

]]>
<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on Detroit Auto Show: Cadillac CTS Coupe]]> @reefer: I would agree about the rear proportions. It seems that the rear end is too 'fast', perhaps needing more definition instead of disappearing off the end of the trunklid. I'd have to see it in person though, I could see this being a car that looks better than in photos. Good job Cadillac! Looking forward to the V version.

<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on GM Sales Decrease In 2007, But People Love The Aveo]]> @JHJVJR: And what happened to American pride? It seems when it comes to vehicles, Americans WANT the 'big three' to fail and wish for the likes of Toyota, Honda and the others to finish them off. It's rather disturbing.

]]>
<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on GM Sales Decrease In 2007, But People Love The Aveo]]> @athodyd: I thought it was something along those lines, I just didn't know for sure. No doubt GM and others would have to focus their lineup according to what the Japanese needs would be, but given the chance and some time I think the could have a chance... and maybe boost their numbers a little more while they're at it.

]]>
<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on GM Sales Decrease In 2007, But People Love The Aveo]]> I wonder what global sales would be like if there were a level playing field. Does anybody know why Japan doesn't allow 'foreign' automotive manufacturers?

]]>
<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on Chevy Celebrates 50 Years of the Impala (Minus 10 years)]]> @thatguy01: You're right on the chassis, dash and front clip but you have to read between the lines here, of course not everything was different but even the Pontiac had the same chassis... so that leaves you with the dash, front fenders and the hood. I spent four years doing a complete frame-off restoration of my 58 Impala, and trust me, there aren't many parts I could have used off the Bel Air. When GM produced the Impala in 1958 it was a unique, stand alone model which carried the Chevy design aesthetic of lower end models, such as the Biscayne and Bel Air, to the top end Impala.

]]>
<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on Chevy Celebrates 50 Years of the Impala (Minus 10 years)]]> I'm not sure what you mean by Impala being a special version of the Bel Air model in 1958 and then a stand alone version in 1959. EVERYTHING about the Impala was different from the Bel Air in '58. Even the roof was different (lower) and was only offered in hardtop or convertible option. The interior was different, the engine and tranny options were different, the cladding was different... I expect you guys to know your stuff a little better.
As for the new Impala... it leaves a lot to desire.

<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on What Vehicle Has the Worst Rear End?]]> Sorry, I can't jump on the Aztec bandwagon on this one. The tail end is that only good looking part of this very, very ugly vehicle.
The Nissan 350Z's tail end on the other hand is the winner for me. It's such a weak execution on an otherwise good looking car.

<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on Detroit Auto Show: Toyota Reveals New Honda Ridgeline, Calls it the A-BAT Concept Hybrid Truck]]> I had to read the headline twice after looking at the picture... this is a Toyota?! You mean they actually attempted to design something that wasn't boring? They certainly get a point for that but then they loose two points for making it look so awful. I mean, it's not so bad in concept car form but you take that stuff away and you're left with an Aztec wanna be. Good luck with that.

]]>
<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on Jezza Hates the Mini Cooper S Clubman]]> I'm a huge Mini Cooper fan (though I don't presently own one) but I would have to agree that the Clubman is HIDEOUS. It's all in the rear end... what is that thing?? The interior (all Minis) are also very awkward and I'm holding out for an improvement there, otherwise a terrific car.

<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1: Revealed, Officially!]]> So whatever happened to the 'Blue Devil' moniker? Is that what they'll call the engine?

Love the CF treatment but the see through hood should be a no-cost option. And why can't GM ever make a decent interior?? It drives me crazy!

<![CDATA[rondeimer commented on PCH, Tom Waits Edition: '58 Bel Air or Yellow Corvette?]]> Ah yes, many memories restoring my 58 Impala in the early 90's, back when it wasn't popular to restore these. Often Chevy parts books would be titled 1955-67 Chevy but in small print saying 'except 1958'. This was a true project car hell but well worth the three years frame-off restoration. It had a 283/powerglide as well, black on the outside an red/silver on the inside. Also had a extra car for parts and would you believe it had seat belts in it! It was my first project car and probably my last and ended up selling it for a very comfortable profit about 7 years ago, but she was a beaut!
